PaintCode 2 12 years ago

This seems like a cool way to learn Objective-C and iOS development.

Can I make an entire working app using this, or is it only meant for prototyping/mock-ups?

Google Classroom 12 years ago

EdTech is booming, and there is a lot of money to be made. Google Apps for Business is booming. Google Apps for Education, likewise, will boom in the same way.

If you seriously think Google Drive or a Google Docs is going anywhere because your precious Google Reader disappeared, you're nuts.

It looks like it's just scraping the portfolio pages of most of these, and most portfolio directories list nothing more than a company's name and website.

That said, doesn't AngelList or CrunchBase have something like this already? (or at least an API to extract more information from)

I do the exact same, but with the added step of adding the backup passwords for Google/Dropbox to the extra text fields you can add in 1Password. (For the very rare case of "I lost my phone/ipad, am not home for the physical backup codes, but still have access to 1Password on my Macbook")

We're still years away from HTML5 applications reaching the performance of native desktop applications.

Atom.io is too slow for most Sublime users, especially on hardware that is not bleeding-edge.

The reason women complain about being 'discriminated' is because it works so well for them

Probably the most bullshit thing I will have read this month.

Burying the URL 12 years ago

From an IT support perspective, it could become a minor annoyance. It's not uncommon for support to request the URL or have the user manipulate it in some way. Now they have to instruct the user to click on a button to reveal the URL, but only after identifying if the user is using a browser or the version of Chrome that hides the URL. (And if IT is ignorant of this new feature, they are going to be very confused when the user is arguing with them "There is no URL in the box!")

Passionate language like that is used all over the industry, especially from start ups. So why is it a big deal if it's used to describe PHP?

If the Ruby on Rails blog made a post saying "Rubyists are makers at heart." would you complain?

Square Pickup 12 years ago

your core business model isn't that hot

You can't just make a statement like that and play it off. Citations? I see Square devices used everywhere in retail, and no, I don't live in San Francisco or the Bay Area.

Why are you getting your jimmies rustled for no reason? Stop getting offended over nothing. They didn't say "PHP developers are makers at heart. No one else is."

No offense, but did you bother to research Marvel _at all_ before asking this question? popapp app's landing page makes it very clear the workflow is physical paper -> photo -> storyboard, whereas Marvel's landing page is very clear their workflow is PSD/etc. -> storyboard.

Sometimes I feel like HN asks "how is this different from X app" without doing any research, just to be lazy.

I know Famo.us is pitched at app building, but how about websites? Would Famo.us-Angular be worth it for making a landing page with cool animations, or should I just stick with the simpler animate.css because it's good enough?

I think the coolest thing about self-driving cars is they can create a mesh network with one another. If I'm driving to work and a traffic accident occurs 2 miles ahead on my route, with multiple self-driving cars present at the accident, those cars can share traffic information with all self-driving cars in the area. My car will then plan an alternative route around the accident before I've even seen it.

Communication would be encrypted of course to prevent tampering.

Marvel Comics API 12 years ago

They never said it was open, so I don't see the problem, unless you readily associate "API" with "open".

Collaborative gaming has a lot of promise, but so far it's been implemented poorly.

You need to allow gamers to create small teams, and allow them to talk with one another to discuss strategy. Then they decide on a move.

Someone make chess using the above.

Sketch 3 released 12 years ago

Do Pixelmator and Sketch 3 complement one another? I already use Pixelmator and love it.

Unless mistaken, Pixelmator is like Adobe Photoshop and Sketch 3 is like Adobe Illustrator?
