That's part of their agenda. If they will let people easily use other languages, naturally only JS devs will use JS.

You can use non-legacy non-ubiquitous languages (as opposed to HTML/JS/CSS), because it's not public-facing. Microsoft is sending a mixed message to enterprise: should they bet on HTML5 and possibly quit the MS ecosystem whatsoever, or XAML is still a major investment for Microsoft? They need to demonstrate that WPF/XAML team is more important than ASP/Azure team.

XAML is quite verbose, they are not making any radical changes - that's the problem. There is no daring attitude that you can see in the ASP team.

So you can easily just change a build flag without touching any XAML or creating a new project and everything just works?

Is Visual Studio Code made with WPF? Is Visual Studio Online made with WPF? Is WPF open-source and multi-platform? Guess which one(s) will survive in 5 years?

Not until you marry if you intend to. The quality of spouse material in smaller towns is higher.

Is that still a requirement for start-ups? Now, if they are not going to spend at least half the money on a new fancy office - that would be a major concern for investors.

For me passion is when you are up-to-date with the trends and strive to (re-)factor your code to be better.

Unpaid overtime is most definitely a NO though, but the pay doesn't have to be immediate.
