Ask HN: Startups outside US, what to do?

I'm working on a simple app "Smileship". I am new and trying to learn php/mysql while building this. My app is fairly simple. The main aim of my app is to inspire people to smile.

You can see it at: http://smileship.com

Soon, I and my friends are going to work on plagiarism project as our college major project.

Network providers should think upon decreasing the cost of SMS instead of complaining about missed calls. It would give them the opportunity to monetise as well as free up the network to some extent.

And as for the 'missed call' culture, it's either used mostly by students or the poor peoples (a bitter truth of most Indians), in either of the case, it is mostly likely that none of them uses smart phones that can handle applications as mentioned in the comments here.

Well, I agree to how you pointed things out but look closer to the article in TC, she says: "People are pretty good at making choices for themselves. Men can stay home. Women can do startups. The thing is, most don’t want to. And that’s okay." And there is the word 'most' in her phrase.

She's expressed her opinion pretty clearly. And believe me, most of the time you, me and all of us runs on generalization. So this is no exception, except you just freaked out because you just didn't fit in this generalization. And frankly, you are just as an exception to that.

Now really, tell me how many of womens really think as you do?

Yes I agree with the statement, "Don't wait for the opportunity, make it." Yes I do have a lot of ideas, but sadly, I am not able to find good friends, I mean potential co-founders who could be my partner in startup.

I agree. The Internet is one, so the market for the startups are too, but the problem here is not to be able to find appropriate environment such as investment, co-founders and enough attention from peoples that would matter the development.

Thank you daylteo, liked you suggestion. Yes kind of "Making money" and "To solve problems", both are my aim.

Seems like, moving to US, sooner or later, anyhow, could only be the solution. Waiting for the opportunity in my own country, may take decades or so, which don't seem very appropriate to me.

IMO philosophy can't be learned/taught by the way we do with other subjects in school. Basically, philosophy answers to your questions, but only if you are searching the answer. But in most of the cases, peoples are searching reasons and logic behind a question, which philosophy doesn't provide. Here, I am talking about the eastern philosophy, which is entirely different than the western which I am totally unknown from. Philosophy can provide you vision of life, or whatever we are upto.

P.S. Let's not kill the philosophers.

Note: I am planning to join philosophy classes in my master level, once I finish my bachelors. :)

It depends on what kind of site you are trying to build. There is not just wordpress, if you are not satisfied with it, there are 100's of other. I would suggest you to find/search and give them a look before you start coding yourself from scratch. It will save your hell lot of time and enable you build a smart website that works really good.
