From what I see, Node is something you install on a web server and it executes javascript server-side. How is it possible to build a web application (with user authentication, web pages with different content, etc.) from that? It doesn't seem anything like web frameworks I've heard about in the past like Rails and Django.

The shell of a web app/website can be built with white background on black text without any viewing library at first, right? So, would it make sense for a beginner to just pick one of the few frameworks you listed above Note+Express/Laravel/Django/etc. and just get to work on what it means to have a CRUD?

I feel like most tutorials always complicated things by trying to add too much at once -- to a fault, I've never been able to learn Node/Express and build a working app where I could add a record, delete it, update it, etc. Once it gets to "ROUTING" I kind of lose it, unfortunately. Haha.

I would probably be better off with Wordpress for most website needs, anyway...

I was just there recently and there are rooms off to the side of the David which had so many sculptures. I remember it vividly because they all had these black markings sticking out of them in symmetrical places all over the faces and bodies. Is this what you're speaking of? I can't remember seeing the works in progress, as you mention.

Well YouTube was similar when it first started, no? People were uploading whatever they wanted, and eventually they rolled out DMCA takedown and reporting features for copyright infringement violations.

Over time, the service was setup with a full feature set to handle all of this, but it didn't exist when YouTube first started.

Off topic but can someone answer this for me? Are the stars in our night sky part of our galaxy or no? It seems such a stupid question to ask, but when I look online it says we have one star, our Sun, whereas other galaxies have one or multiple - for instance a galaxy with two stars would be called a Binary System.

So where are the stars in our night sky? Are they even further away than Uranus, Neptune.., but so bright we see them anyway?

Sad about the Kinect, but don't interpret this as Microsoft/Xbox failing. They are actually doing a fantastic job with the Xbox brand. The X (scorpio) is launching soon, and they are releasing a bunch of older titles into their ever-expanding backwards compatibility library. In addition, developers are pushing out graphics/performance update patches for the popular titles on the X, and recently overhauled the Xbox UI - it is extremely snappy now and customizable.

Thanks for the feedback and for sharing your personal experiences. I think your comment about value being created in other ways (and in sometimes incredibly simple, non-techy ways) is something important to not lose sight of. Also, just in that example alone, future enhancement of a service like that could be automating the newsletter into multiple formats, for viewing on the go (such as a kindle format, PDF, etc.), instead of leaving it email only.

But yea, like I said in my OP, I don't even have a business idea yet. Whatever it is, it will need to have a real value prop to be worth doing.

This looks like an awesome concept. I'm going to fill a profile in the next few days, as I was just updating my resume. Hopefully I can have success as one of the site's early members.

Is this something you have heard about on the news and/or Internet, or is there some truth behind this (that there are bots gaming the authoring process)? I would like to learn more about it, how its being done, etc.

Not expecting you to share one of the books with me, but I was looking to get into this as well. I am assuming they are small, niche-specific books.

Do you perform all of the keyword research ahead of time (before finding your writer), and build out an index/table of contents so that every chapter in the book is planned ahead of time, or do you leave all of the research, chapter creation, and writing for the ghostwriter?

As a follow-up, this idea came out because I have somewhat recently taken a huge interest in art, not helped by my binge watching of Bloomberg's Brilliant Ideas documentary series on various artists. I have collected some prints/reproductions over the years, but didn't see a marketplace to buy authentic, original works from artists. I check Craigslist occasionally with varying degrees of success. Thus, the idea was born.

At least in that case I wouldn't mind if a superior was honestly and truly checking with Legal Departments, and others of authority, to verify whether some action I was considering taking was going to cost me my job... Could any of us here really be upset about a Manager that does that?

Let's have a little fun and pick apart the first topic you listed. Books. What exactly is there still to be done in the realm of books?

Publishing? There are big companies or now you can self-publish. There are many video tutorials, courses, and blogs all dedicated to self-publishing, so even the online education realm of things seems to be taken.

Writing books? Ok sure you can write a book just like you can produce a single piece of any kind of content, so that can't count. Software to assist in writing books? From my quick search, there's Scrivener, and a bunch of other platforms and apps.

Want to write a book without typing? Hmm, there's already a bunch of speech-to-text apps like Dragon.

Buying books? Amazon. Audio books? Audible.

Collecting books? Hmm ok, may be something in there. Site that lists the top 100 books from prior years? Or a top 10 per genre, per year (historical).

The reality is coming up with an idea is already hard. Coming up with a business is much harder. Would love an idea in this space.

As the other request said, please post more information. I want your lifestyle and hope one day I can come up with an idea and put it into action to achieve it.

As a somewhat obsessive relationship with that book, I'm looking to get into entrepreneurship soon. From everything I've read and researched about the 4HWW, people say its better to first have a working business and/or income stream, then focus on ways to automate or make single processes more efficient; As opposed to trying to start a business using the 4HWW from the 'get-go'.

What would your advice be? As someone who's lived the success, do you think its possible to start from the ground up with 4HWW in mind?

Side comment, but somewhat related: I just started getting into reading and the most recent book I finished was Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami. I just started 1Q84, also by Murakami. Those books really do something to my brain when I read them. Ever since I got into it, I've had these strange desires to write a book of my own, but since I have no experience in the matter, I was thinking of clever ways to procedurally generate plot points, then let a randomizer run in a loop until it generates something interesting.

For example, in multiple arrays, you could create lists for different plot elements: ex: "main character is a " [student, engineer, pilot, detective]. You can do something for physical features as well, and personality traits, and generate completely randomized characters. Then, you could do something for the plot as well... If I were able to do this as a starting point, I could write a story by filling in the blanks, so to speak...

So, is there a popular forum or perhaps Twitter that all of these enthusiasts hang out at? =D

I was greatly inspired by your post, and I'll be spending the rest of the evening reading your CreativeSomething blog and a little more about your story.

I have a strong desire to follow your path, but instead of Creativity as a focus, it is on finding ways to achieve a simple, less stressful life through automation of repetitive tasks, good habits, organization, etc. Think "Wellness" but with possibly a more tech-focused spin. I get much satisfaction from books like Spark Joy (Marie Kondo), Four Hour Work Week (Timothy Ferriss), and I Will Teach You To Be Rich (Ramit Sethi).

Your post about researching, doing, and reflecting really speaks to me. And I feel like I should jump in... but I'm hesitant because I'm not sure I can easily come up with 20-25 starting topics to research and write about. In your case, Creativity seems like a core keyword that is (easier) to start with. Do you have any recommendations for me?

I was in Shenzhen not long ago. Good shout, but the city is actually very new. It's very clean and the subway is near spotless, so it doesn't give off a dark, dystopian cyberpunk kinda feel to it. Hong Kong is another good shout, specifically Kowloon region. Many Asian cities like these have lots of old neon signs, architecture, and technology that definitely gives off the Cyberpunk vibe
