Comments should be a last-resort stopgap

I'd add; Comments should be saying _why_ this crazy method is here. You can always parse the code to figure out what it does. In a few months/years (depending on your memory) you will not remember _why_ this code was put in place.

Web login using SSH 11 years ago

I appreciate I'm a bit late to the party here, but..

Does anyone have any type of explanation of why the UI in browsers for client certs are so user-unfriendly?

I would really like to use client certs more, but with things the way they are that's impossible right now. It's just too hard for a normal person to use them.

Sure, if Airbnb have been given proof that the subletting is illegal, they should remove the listing.

But my point is that doesn't really solve the problem. What should be sorted is the fact that this person sublets the flat illegally.

Is that really Airbnb's fault?

Airbnb is the service provider in this case, but there are other companies with a similar service, or the neighbour could let it out personally to other people.

Assuming the neighbour is subletting illegally as you state, surely that's where the problem lies.

Before this announcement, I'd never heard of Balanced.

Reading comments, some people are saying it was a great service. But, it's shutting down, while services less great carry on.

This is hard for dev people (like myself) to realize, but if you're looking for commercial success, marketing is generally worth more than the quality of your product.

Disagree.

We technical people instinctively know there's a fundamental difference between those 2 domains. Normal people don't. And why should they?

We (tech people) have to get the situation to a point where we don't expect normal people to have to know all these silly details.

I'm not doing anything to help achieve this, I'm hoping other people are :)

there will always be idiots.

there will always be people catching on to something, being loud, creating the first noise other people see.

Seriously. Fuck it. Ignore it. Ignore them.

I haven't followed Slackware dev for 10+ years (too old etc), but it was the awesome thing in the 90s (to me); at a time I was curious to learn about all the weird details, it gave me the opportunity,

I hope it still does give that opportunity, AND that young people take advantage of this.

Looking back, this is (part of) the magic and joy of computers. People doing a lot of cool shit, and then sending it off for free for other people to do other cool shit. No app store in sight.

Working on services that makes law firms and lawyers more efficient.

It's cool (to me) because I'm one of the co-founders, we started from 0 a few years ago, and I like to see the growth.

(you didn't specify it had to be cool to other people)

Different things.

Yea, if you're hosting with them, trusting them is handy.

This Longview agent can be run anywhere though, doesn't have to be on a Linode machine. Not entirely sure why you'd want this setup, but still..

Linode Longview 13 years ago

I disagree.

The software running on your machines is open source. It can be reviewed. Quite important for people not wishing to run closed source software on their machines.

I guess it's possible, but I don't think that's the case here. The domain name is just 5 characters long, but it's quite obscure; it's not a real word.

We registered both .SE and .COM in April, and I don't think either had been used before. The .COM is currently parked, I'm seeing all of this on the .SE site.

The referals I've seen appear indicate Spanish clients; There could be a mixup (Spain = .ES), but the domain name .ES isn't registered by anyone.

I don't think there's much to be too concerned about, I was merely curious what this might be.
