I’m sorry to hear you had that experience, and I appreciate your feedback. We put a lot of care into evaluating every candidate’s take-home solution, and it’s never an auto-reject. Every decision is made by a person, an engineer at Bitnomial. I know take-homes are a big ask, and we try to make them meaningful and fair while respecting candidates' time. We're balancing trying to get as much signal as we can while not being brutal. Hiring is tough, and rejection is never easy, but we always strive to be thoughtful and respectful throughout the process.

By the way, we’ve hired several great engineers who didn’t make it through the process on their first try.

I can't recommend https://reclaim.ai highly enough, which the article mentions. It's absolutely a game-changer for me. My whole life is scheduled in my calendar. I have a bunch of automatic meetings with my team. It's really been a life-saver for the past couple of years. They're also always improving the product.

It is exactly what Apple did with the M1 chips. I had a developer kit Mac Mini with an M1 chip in it that I sent back to Apple when the developer period was over.

Ohh! Don't tease me with Escape Velocity! It apparently needs 2050K more memory?

We use Haskell at Bitnomial, and I can confirm that this is in fact the case. We've been able to incorporate new complex knowledge quickly in a way that most other languages would have more trouble with. Refactoring is a secret weapon for Haskell.

One mildly annoying thing about eshell is the lack of input redirection. I can most of the time rewrite my command to not use an input redirection or use some other emacs feature to do what I want (eg M-x sql-postgres), but out of habit, I trip over myself sometimes in eshell with respect to this.
