I was in this position. Either advance to Staff Engineer (with 0% coding) or leave the group. The group I was a part of did not realize that not all good developers make good managers.

I've always firmly believed that I am not good in a people leading position, and that I excel as an IC.

I never ended up finding a new group in the company, as a company-wide layoff of software engineers ended my relationship with them.

I just found a new role as an IC, and I couldn't be happier.

But if you present your badly written requirements to a person who has the culture to ask questions, you at least have that safeguard. After all, it's a collaboration.

And when you work with an offshore team, quite often as contractors, you have the issue that you don't get top quality.

The in-between company will do its very best to hire low to maximize profit.

The good quality developers work either on local grown software, or leave the country for better opportunity.

And you are now working with a group of developers whose livelihood depends on saying 'yes' or not saying 'no.

And because of this you will not know whether there is an issue in the requirements until x time later and the plane goes down.

I cannot set a random outgoing From: address when sending an email in iOS. In many ways I understand applications not wanting this feature. Non-technical people will see it and wonder: What if I put in someone else's email address here?

The problem I find is that whatever comes after 24.04 and before 26.04 will not be supported by Jellyfin.

Anecdotally, this is something I've experienced in the USA more than in Europe. When I ask a question in store a lot of times I get the feeling that the person answering considers themselves an expert and quickly make claims that I know for a fact are false.

It's like in the USA saying "I don't know, but let me get someone who does" isn't allowed.

Let's sous-vide a steak for 2 hours, and then throw it in a hot pan with oil, without drying off the steak. You'll get a lot of smoke, which will probably set of any kind of ionizing smoke detector.

Whether you're cooking on gas or electric at that moment really doesn't matter.

What matters is that you have a _PROPER_ range hood. One that vents outside and one that isn't integrated into a microwave oven.

This is absolutely great news. You can't even compare 2 restaurants anymore because their fees might be different.

This is also good for places that rent out stuff, but have a fine print like 'mandatory refuel fee of $x'.

If it's mandatory it should be part of the price.

AM is free. FM doesn't have the range. Mobile Apps require subscription AND cell service. With 3G and 4G going away range is actually getting worse. Satellite (SiriusXM) also requires a subscription.

So what do we do? Free SiriusXM? That still requires someone to connect to a broadcasting station that sends it up to the satellite, and then the satellite broadcasts it, after which I can hear it on the radio.

AM just makes more sense.

And hapi! I remember switching to that one from express. Learning it was written by WalMart kinda confused me at first.

I switched away from Mint because of a nightmare after losing an iPhone and having to pay for a new eSIM. You only get 2 eSIMs per year.

And wiping an iPhone via iCloud erases the eSIM. So my phone died, and I couldn't track it. I wiped it remotely. As I had some issues with restoring backups I exhausted my 2 eSIMs in 1 year.

I paid it, and ported out once my plan was up. Now on Visible, with unlimited eSIMs.

I remember using one of those dongles with a SIM card that you could talk to with an API and use that to send flash SMS. Full screen warnings to friends. Only option was 'OK' and the text was gone afterwards.

It's not sugar perse. It's the fact that you have companies cooking for you vs your grandma. Yes, your grandma's cookies had sugar, but it didn't have the other 10 ingredients that are basically pre-digested, making that cookie from the store to be EXTREMELY palatable.

When I left CA my off-peak cost was more expensive per kWh than my on-peak cost here in Phoenix. And that on-peak is for 3 hours per day.

There is regeneration that happens to burn the soot from the filter, which increases fuel consumption a little bit, but I will still take a BMW M340d xDrive station wagon over a BMW X3 M40i any day.

Annecdotaly: I was recovering from hip surgery. Further PT denied even though I was still in pain and didn't recover 100%. I'm 35. Not 75. I expect to get back to hiking 10 miles.

But their denial lead to more pain, and an appeal takes at least 30 days.

There should be a law that says you are guaranteed continued treatment when your appeal is pending. That way they actually have the incentive to do it properly. Now whether that again is a close and deny... yea, not sure what the solution is there.

I was surprised about this when I moved to the USA. We cooked on electricity in Belgium, and there was a range hood.

Then you come here and you start to look at apartments and there is no hood at all. Weird.

Or you see a microwave with a vent that vents inside.

Makes you wonder whether a mandatory range hood that vents outside is better than a gas range ban...
