Sure. But you seem to be approaching interviews as a one way street like, "I hold this thing here which I will give it to you if I deem you worthy". That is not how things work these days in tech, especially in hot markets. If you are not willing to carve out time there are plenty others who will. Sorry dude, just the reality of the rare market situation where the power is balanced between companies and talent.

FUD? You want the general population to gamble away their life savings in what effectively are some shiny slides? Completely unregulated? Would you like to invest in this bridge I have here for you? Hey, you want to get in now before everyone wants in and the prices go 10x.
Yes it is affordable by those who can, you know, afford it. That was the point OP was making.
The biggest advantage for a hobbist developer like me is that web development makes a single code base possible. One code base runs on phones, tablets, desktop, across OSs etc. It would be impossible for me to write and distribute solutions otherwise. Multiple programming languages, deployment overhead across app stores etc.
I miss the provision of notifications the most. With PWA I can cover Android, but I don't think anyone allows notifications from websites (I don't).
Employment for everyone, not screwing up the planet
Why so? What if I have an okay solution to a okay problem but see an opportunity to monetize the market gap and band together some folks to create a business around it? Does it have be "inspiring"?
You have not considered leverage in the equation.
I bet parent also feels that Trump is the best president. The reasoning has to be similar.
"...What the upside would be"
A very low risk great shot at potentially leading a Google product and all the associated upsides?
I fear my mind the most in a situation where it has got nothing to do.
Looks like a PR piece made it to front page.
What isn't?
I wanted to build something similar for mobile to make music on the go. I started it here (abandoned now, but code is linked): http://buildanappwithme.blogspot.in/2016/04/lets-make-music....
Also they seem to have pivoted to business management system
Then the higher skilled members should devote a significant amount of time getting others to level up. It is a team. Management should have structure in place to incentivice it. If they don't have a structure in place then the high skilled members should devote time to make a proposal and pitch it. Find a way to win as a team.
Here was my humble attempt to create a non-linear music interface (I'm not a musician by any stretch): http://buildanappwithme.blogspot.in/2016/04/lets-make-music....
I have since abandoned iOS development in favor of mobile web apps
I get the point of the article but "facebook" could be replaced by "computing" and we could ask, "Are computers a structural threat to free society?". Ultimately we could conclude, "Humans are the biggest threat to Society/Humanity".
We directly and consciously altered our environment, energy consumption, knowledge consumption, mobility, appearance, anatomy, life expectancy etc. etc. But genetics is somehow not cool to touch?
The last 4 companies I joined (all fortune) allowed this. In fact they were pressing for me to start. As OP said, all you need is the application receipt.
There is a third reason. I have always had cable till last year. Then I moved and went through the experience of getting cable from a big cable provider. I wanted them to give my money (typically around $75/month). But it ended with series of very frustrated phone calls and me deciding that sacrificing sports and news is well worth not having to deal with that company.
"stop feeding people an endless stream of ad-stuffed trash media selected by an algorithm maximizing for clickbait factor and nothing else".
I'm not sure if this is the core of the problem, if at all. Most of what you see on facebook are links shared by your network. If your "friends" are sharing and re-sharing clickbait fake news, you see clickbait fake news. This is evident in groups on whatsapp where there is no algorithmic intervention and it is still an endless stream of misinformation (in most diverse groups). This also mirrors real world echo chambers.
If you do have have some suggestions for solving this problem, it would be great to discuss here.
I'm thinking not bringing the phone or deleting all apps before landing won't help much if they ask you to login into your accounts on a computer (or stay detained for hours if you refuse or claim that you don't use facebook/email, your pick).
I would like to share this method that I'm experimenting with and have found good success with.
Last week of each quarter quantify your last quarter and write-up your OKRs for next quarter. Delete everything in your to-do list and clear out your inbox. Start from zero. It helps to think about it like you are quitting your job and starting a new one. I call it Q-boot.
Because without it being a legal tender it is just paper. Are you thinking it will at least be a standard looking paper with unique serial number? That is plausible, but then there is no one to check/enforce counterfeit notes which will flood the system.
Yet 90% of my social circle (middle-upper class India) is in strong favor of this seemingly terrible move by Modi government. It is not unlike the support Duterte has seen in Philippines.
The lottery example is fantastic to explain the misplaced expectation of startups. Indeed if we take a results of lottery winners (Jobs, Gates, Musk etc.) and work backwards on how they got rich, it will point to, "aggressively play lottery".
And maybe just follow the licensing terms?
Considering everything (culture, kids' future, opportunities, investment, social circle etc.) this is still the best place for me. So yes, it is annoying and ridiculous, but I like it here. Or maybe it is me rationalizing the situation in my head.
13.5 yrs and still in line for green card. I guess working a regular tech job and enabling the companies to compete and succeed, adding many many millions in revenue, creating jobs etc. is not as sexy as surviving on ramen and raising funds for the next app.
How about Bricks game for not having to rotate?
