Ok, that's fair, and I think that AI isn't that useful for people who don't really know what they want to learn or do.

What I had in mind (and found personally useful myself) was being able to ask a chatbot to break something down into simpler and simpler concepts, until my weak fundamentals or lack of formal education could grasp some bit of it.

I'm not sure many humans (or colleagues at a workplace) would have the patience to tolerate the stupid questions I've been asking.

What are these "top talent" usually talented at, then?

(I'm not talking about OpenAI/Anthropic at this point, but maybe a <10 people startup.)

One thing I've repeatedly told people is that chatbots are often the most patient teachers we'll ever get (especially when explaining "stupid" questions) — compared to what we've encountered on StackOverflow or Reddit.

The foundation was, at some point in time when the drama was at its peak, mostly a feel-good non-profit initiative.

Yeah, but I also looked at many different videos to evaluate quality myself, and GoPro wasn't great.

I don't really use the software, not even for updates.

I copy out the footage directly using a USB-C cable (wish it had USB 3.0), and do firmware updates by just dropping the update file into the microSD card.

It's friggin' fabulous that everything is doable without having to use an app. (Also the app takes up somewhere between 1-2GB of storage on my phone, and I don't have that kind of space.)

When I was looking to buy an action camera last year, I was deciding between Insta360 and DJI, with many YouTubers suggesting outright against GoPro since they haven't kept up with image quality.

Action cameras sound like a tough business, since most of them are built to last ages, and they need to keep the vast majority of content creators happy trying to increase image quality in a small form factor.

Anyway, I bought the Insta360 Go Ultra I had my mind on from the start, which I'm still reasonably happy with.

So much for the speculation that China was encouraging the release of free/cheap models to mess with the US AI economy.

Inductive charging doesn't help with non-replaceable lithium batteries that will eventually degrade past usable in maybe 1-3 years.

I don't want personal care items that have internal batteries at all, because they'll eventually die on me while the device itself (brush heads notwithstanding) is otherwise perfectly functional. I'd much rather keep rechargeable AA(A)s on hand for that kind of stuff.*

I thought the same, but that'll happen with devices that use AA batteries too.

I was using a cheap Panasonic EW-DJ10 water flosser that uses AA batteries, but the battery compartment contacts would corrode after some time.

I then switched to one of those China USB-C water flossers, but I think the built-in lithium battery's nearing the end of its life since it'll cut off randomly now. I also used to worry about charging it, since the USB-C port would need to be dried out before I plugged the charging cable in.

No idea what's a happy medium for electronics that need to work near water.

The fundamental problem with the internet is that hosting sucks and no one wants to do it. It's thankless and it's expensive to maintain, both time and money. Apps are a way to not worry about that.

Except it seems like plenty of apps these days are just vehicles to give web-based services some native abilities, so they're practically useless without a data connection.

Enforcement is minimal, especially since you can selectively roll out updates to make it unlikely that a reviewer gets it.

What's worse is that there's practically no process to report any sort of rulebreaking, so someone could be mining crypto or running a residential proxy [1] through the mobile game I've been playing, and I'd be none the wiser.

Gosh, I wish more apps did some kind of progressive "enhancement" and let people read already cached messages and do deferred sends like the old days, instead of being completely useless without a data connection.

What really burns tokens is sub agents. I once gave Claude Code a pretty big task, and it immediately launched 7 sub agents which burned through my budget before even one of them was finished. Tried again 5 hours later: same result.

Probably because the general purpose subagents inherit the parent model.

I tell Claude explicitly to use Explore subagents, which use Haiku only, now.

I have both the Claude and ChatGPT entry-level business plans, and I feel like I get more use out of Claude, and that's even with some Fable and Opus use.

Claude training should learn that sometimes people use the word "honestly" because they'd otherwise be lying most of the time.

Whatever you submit for your company, you are again responsible. Even if you hired a accountant.

So while technically, if a accountant makes gross mistakes, the bill will always fall in your lap, because you are expected to understand the reports you submit to the IRS. And catch any errors before doing so.

I've had a tiny accounting firm take on more and more accounting debt over years just to get the accounts (lots of journal entries into contra accounts; this was before I took over the company), that I was mostly rolling my eyes at how horrible they've become when I tried enlisting Claude's help to untangle them and hopefully move away from using that firm.

I know bookkeeping is tough, especially for newer businesses that haven't set up the processes, but a lot of the professional services industry feels like outsourcing a website to a freelancer on Upwork.

Do they? I don't recall ever seeing a bag of sugar in my life. I'm not a baker though so maybe that explains it.

They are actively in the process of doing this with Tesla as we speak. And are in the phase of pushing them out domestically and trying to destroy tesla marketshare globally.

What did China do to Tesla? Aren't the EV firms there more innovative and successful because of the China domestic push towards EV and government incentives around the world?

I think at some point, AI development becomes a competition for who has the best taste [1], because with seemingly unlimited/cheap tokens, AI ends up being more about throwing shit at a wall and hoping something sticks.

Coca-Cola doesn't "quietly water down" its product to save a few bucks. They know people will take a sip, say "oh that's not what i wanted", and go buy a Pepsi.

Coca-Cola is also mostly measurable and reverse-engineerable.

The Claude models are black boxes, and actively curtail distilling efforts.
