I am being in such a team and I tell you this is great. We are pretty flat, you can pick whatever title you want on your resume but here we are all engineers. My manager insists that he usually cannot make better decisions than we do, because we usually understand the problems better than him. His major request is that if anything gets stuck we need to raise it immediately so that it can be solved quicker and doesn't block others.
This is exactly what I'm experiencing with my boss and I love that!
I think you missed the point that we need an open pricing system. Sure you are willing to pay $200 for that sling but others might decide differently if they see the price beforehand!

The 500e I had, I think 2014 version, had a serious reliability issue. Its electric system failed me multiple times. One time the car just suddenly stalled in the middle of the San Mateo bridge. I love the look of the car, but maybe the fact that they don't want to make it (but have to) leads to them putting less resource on QA?

Natural consequences: What if the child doesn't care about consequence, or what if he/she likes the consequence? In the example of being late for school, the child could consider it as a reward, that he/she doesn't have to go to school anymore.
How about apps and adoption from developers? Those are much more important than an OS alone. As someone mentioned, we have bunch of OS aready, Tizen, Window Mobile?
One thing I don't understand why Walmart hasn't invested in: change the web interface!!! Their website is just not attractive at all!!!

I have put quite a bit of similar effort to image retrieval using Elasticsearch before. While it is nice and convenient, what I found was that Elastic Search is too slow for larger scale (million of Images with dictionary of millions visual words in BoW model). May be there're some steps that I did not do right, but I gave up.
There're ton more local features proposed since SIFT but SIFT, arguably, still among the best. Deep feature, on the other hand, is more like global feature. May be a combination of these two could give the best?
One thing I find annoying is that interviewers expect you to think out loud "continuously". If I stop talking for 30s or 1 minute, I am in trouble. That is not applicable to everyone. I myself feel more confident to think in silent (may be 5-10 minutes at least) before I can tell interviewers my whole train of thought. Speak out loud what I'm thinking could easily interrupt it!!! Everyone is different!
May be it's not 90% but I have a friend who experienced the same thing, she gave up after 2 weeks once she realized the lie. I honestly think the US government is lazy in this aspect. It's not that hard to track down those consultancies. Not relevant but that reminds me of the tax case where an unemployed girl filed for $2M tax return and got the money (only got caught later when she lost her card).
I've dreamed for this screen for a long time. I would love to have side-by-side an E-ink screen for coding and reading papers and a normal screen for any normal things that require color (e.g., videos) A related story: I got terrible headache more than a year ago. My doctors could not figure it out. Migraine, stress, etc. you name them! Nothing helps. Eventually I ended up buying a pair of computer glasses and I've been wearing any time I look at LCD-like screen: TV, computer, tablet. It's miracle, I don't experience that type of headache ever since.
Not sure why it is not mentioned enough in media coverage, but one big reason of the H1B visa shortage is the mass applications from consultancy companies (all I know are Indian based, but there might be more). There was a report that these consultancies have about 25% - 33% H1Bs quota each year. They are the ones who get large margin by paying employees cheap, even though on paper these employees could get much higher from "customer companies". And you know how they work? My friend spent 2 weeks at a consultancy, and they gave her some projects to MEMORIZE while they were polishing her resume. They have bunch of customers, so one memorizing can be used for many interviews! True story. The government should fix this first!
I worked for a company working on audio fingerprinting before (as well as image/video). I have to say it's great that we have a song (audio) recognition system that works pretty well, but the business never takes off. May be it's just my previous company as I'm not sure how Shazam is doing, but I haven't heard of them for a while
The switching button might not be that convenient and comfortable. Why not just a press button and 3 LEDs? You press one, it switches the LEDs?
