That's conflating two different problems. The issue of someone posting something without permission is one, and what Facebook does with what it distributes is another, entirely different second issue. We are discussing the second.

Is it dystopian to regulate that sites cannot host and distribute pedophile content for instance ? Regulations are needed, in the internet as much as anywhere else.

Facebook has everything to do with the data they host, modify, and distribute.

And the current legal debate and regulations about it are long overdue.

Wouldn't that depend on what they use this data for, what it is, and whether they keep it regardless of taking the file down if requested ? ( GDPR, etc. )

It is not that simple. I do not use it. Yet someone can upload an image I send them, or my photograph without my knowledge. It needs to be strictly regulated.

I don't use any of their services myself, nor do I suggest infringement.

I ask what is the legal situation for a copyright holder, given users likely are not aware of this data being added to a file; what the data exactly is, where or if this data is kept by them independently of the file itself, what is it used for, GDPR implications, etc.

Metadata is data.

If the photograph is copyrighted, how does this modification and embedding of tracking data by a third party affect the owner, if it does at all ?

Therefore this is happening with Instagram as well, of course.

I thought I had reviewed ALL options in the Google account's data section in these past few hours, but there was an old device still listed under devices that I needed to remove just now.

Removing it did away also with the requirement to use it when deleting the account.

Good riddance !

HP makes laptops with very decent keyboards even in their cheapest tiers -- starting around 200-300$, Celeron, fanless, 4GB RAM, plenty for writing; they have several light but sturdy 11 inch models, and they play nice with Linux too.

I mentioned France because EU regulations are better than elsewhere for customers, you also asked specifically about Europe. Also, they're not a newcomer, but a relatively big player ( despite the lack of advertising ) and independent, not part of one of those American umbrella companies with dozens of fake subcompanies who couldn't care less about individual cases.

I am based in Asia and even here they have an excellent reputation. I happened to find them at a time they were short on hands and releasing new products, their replies to my issues were slow and I was not happy about it -- full disclosure. Yet here I am recommending.

I was contacted directly by the area manager and offered compensation in the form of free services after I complained. In my experience they are serious, and I haven't found any better as yet.

Not sure Google, whose favourite past time is shutting down every couple of years services millions use would be the best option particularly when absolute reliability is a requirement.
