Okay, Stripe. Can I accept bitcoins and automatically convert them to USD? I need an instant conversion back to USD after the transaction so I don't lose money due to volatility. Does stripe let merchants auto-convert their Bitcoin payments to USD? This would solve the problem entirely and I'd be happy to pass the extra savings on to customers.

I could probably give about a 6% discount because I wouldn't take profit from the transaction savings.

In fact, given the fee is .05% of the transaction, this could be the first service to ever enable micropayments. Perfect for a lot of internet/new technology services. The key is to convert the customer's USD to bitcoin instantly, pay with bitcoin, and convert the received bitcoin back to USD instantly again.

So to set something up that can send thousands of sms (not spam, part of an app) a day, all I would need is a modem, a server, and this app? Would I need a cell phone plan or something?

The real question is if these wins would change as a result of "global consciousness"

Guys, this is awesome. Just wanted to say thank you. This is definitely very useful to me!

Do you guys have an API for queries?

Looks like they gave their navigation bar more visual weight by darkening it.

They're following the convention Facebook is using for their nav bar, which I like. There's a logo, search, and utilities. This helps because many users expect the navigation to be next to the logo. On a behavioral level it creates a sense of comfort by establishing the security of routine/familiarity. The downside/trade off is by placing the elements side by side instead of on top of each other, it reduces scanability.

A lot of drop down menu options. Amazon does a good job with information scent and progressively disclosing more information in the drop down. This keeps the page from being cluttered and helps people navigate to their goal locations quicker and easier.

I like that they have the prices for their products right out front. You don't have to read more to find out. They give the people what they want to see right away.

I could go on with analysis of the design but now seems like a good stopping point.

Technologic/scientific achievements don't hold any intrinsic meaning. It's like saying you make art for art's sake instead of for an audience. That's the same as saying there's no point to your work. I can achieve great things in chess, but I don't squander my life obsessed with chess, because no one in the real world cares. But someone can play football instead, and it's not a waste of time because with it comes status, money, and so on. You're saying humans are going to stop being competitive. And if we're relieved of the nagging sense that we have to achieve something, you could consider that a cure.
