My tools are syncthing + samba: Mac Mini running Syncthing to sync the iCloud folder to my local linux server which is also running Syncthing. Linux folder synced is exposed as SMB share so I can access it from other systems.
You must be fun at parties.
Great map. There might be some categories missing, couldn't find any Katatonia, Agalloch, Alcest nor Tiamat. Alcest and some Deftones are considered blackgaze and Agalloch, Wolves in the Throne Room fall more into grey metal.
Imagine slashing 30,000 jobs for a measly 2% share price bump.
One lost job is a tragedy. 30,000 jobs lost is statistics.
I think Neil DeGrasse Tyson said it best (paraphrasing): It takes less money and effort to fix Earth than to terraform Mars.
1/3 explicitly approve and 1/3 implicity approve. If my math is mathing, that's 2/3 and it's larger than 1/2.
Controversial opinion, it's way more than half: 1/3 voted for the orange man, 1/3 didn't bother go to vote because "BoTh SideS ARe thE SamE!" and 1/3 tried to do the right thing.
Statistics Canada has over the last year shown that tourism to US from Canada is down by a lot and it's not getting better. Hell, as an anecdote, I keep seing ads on TV like: Come to Disneyland! We got rebates for canadians!
Edit, didn't realise it was this bad:

Last year we cancelled a planned US vacation, this year we didn't even think about it. Going back to Europe two years in a row. I don't give a fuck about tariff policy of our supposed "friends" but when our "friend" repeatedly threatens our independence and sovereignty, no thanks. Not going to step into the USA for a long time.
But wait! There is more!

I really hate condascending and arrogant stuff like "Generally speaking people are too stupid to use AI properly at least for awhile". There are plenty of tech illiterate people that are far from being "stupid" and they might not care about or like AI. They just need to send emails to family, share photos and videos and have a video call from time to time. For them, AI is worthless.
But they aren't stupid. You sound like a tech bro.
So you are happy that our "friend" decided on a whim to wanting to invade our other friend? Despite all of us being part of the same friend group? Despite canadian and danish blood being spilled in Afghanistan right after our "friend" decided to call article 5?
Fuck off.
I hope for a little more PCIe lanes so I can run 2 gaming VMs on these and upgrade my old Threadripper.
Let’s hear your rebuttal to Krugman.
Citizens United already killed democracy.
Not weird. It's textbook fascism.
As a canuk, I was anxious a little bit when orange man kept blathering about annexing Canada, but now seeing how uttery incompetent this administration is, my anxiety died down.
Americans do not understand how much press there is outside the US about tourists from Ireland / Germany / Canada getting locked up in ICE jails for weeks on end.
From my point of view, if POTUS blathers about annexing Canada, then the US doesn't deserve my tourist dollars, neither my Netflix subscription, neither my Amazon prime subscription. I've cut back on purchases/subscriptions from US companies as much as it was possible for me and my family. Also cancelled a trip to south east US. Purely out of spite.
The magnitude is surprising for this to be attributed to the trade dispute - I wonder if this is primarily due to immigration concerns?
3d option: Being pissed off at orange man threating to break an annex Canada.
If this can dissuade the orange man payrolled by Moscow from annexing Canada, then so be it.
These are Stalinist purges, without the violence. From outsider perspective, this is extremely sad and worrying.
19kg of Fentanyl got smuggled from Canada into the US in 2024, not even 1% of the total. Yet POTUS decides to impose a 25% tarrif on all canadian goods because of it. Even if it was a bluff, 100+ years friendship, solidarity and good will was just flushed down the toilet and it will probably take decades to fix. But hey, good job!
How are those egg prices coming?
Headed? Thanks to Zuck and Elon, we are already there.
Lots?

Ryzen and Apple M1 were the best things that happened to CPUs. On one hand I got a super efficient CPU in the M1 and on other hand, I can get a very performant 16 core CPU (Ryzen 7950x) without shelling out insane money for server/workstation CPUs.
> An argument against simulation is that our universe seems gratuitously large. Why have billions of whole other galaxies in it? Given a finite computing budget, you'd expect whoever's running the simulation to want to simulate more planets with civilization and fewer giant dust clouds.
What if the simulation is done in a way like we render video game graphics. We never render stuff that is not "visible", well mostly to spare GPU and CPU cycles. What stops a super advanced simulation to simulate only stuff we can "see" or stuff we observe. If no one is looking at the Andromeda galaxy, no simulation needs to "render" it, saving processing cycles. Or maybe, the nature of the probabilistic aspects of quantum physics is an indication that that the simulators are trying to simulate in a "lossy" way, kind of like MP3 vs FLAC files.
