Canonical's recent problems show that its leadership is extremely poor. They don't know the first thing about communicating during a major outage. And they know nothing about corporate responsibility.

Already switched to Debian vanilla.

It's very disappointing that the company has only issued a one sentence statement nine hours ago and nothing since.

This is the exact opposite of how to communicate updates.

There should be hourly updates from the resiliency engineer on Twitter and other media.

If I were a business customer, this level of communication would suck bad.

It's very important to remember that this individual and many others like them are in the US 100% legally. They have not broken any laws. But US federal agents have rounded them up and put them in detention.

How can the US be considered a democracy with this going on?

I flat out refuse to travel to the United States anymore for fear that I'll simply be arrested, even though I've broken no laws.

Agree with this. I have managed teams of front-end developers in the past. If I had a team today of, say, five front-end developers, three of them would be laid off, minimum, as we adopt AI. I've used Claude code to build frontends recently and it can do the work of several front end developers, amd do it very well. One or two frontend developers would be kept to manage the AI and work with it. In that case, they cease to be front-end developers and become AI builders.

I'm starting to wonder how many Canadians are on Hacker News. This after seeing the BC Time Zone story as well as this one. Just curious, really. I'm wondering what the country breakdown is for Hacker News users.
