I did a fairly deep dive into this (and actually got accepted into a programme at one of the Designated Organisations but haven't gone through with it yet).

It does seem that many (most?) of the accelerator/incubators are pay-to-play. Some are more upfront about this than others. Techstars Toronto would be a notable exception obviously.

I suspect there's a little bit of this pay-to-play at work in some of the angels and funds also who are Designated Organisations, but I can't say that for certain.

The other thing I've gleaned is that the process currently takes a LONG time - like 1 year plus.

There's a couple forums you can search for that active ongoing discussions from applicants.

Many persons are not going to understand the need or motivation for this, but that's fine, it is not for them.

I have an M1 mini 2TB/16GB arriving next week. Will add comments when I get it - my primary dev environment is Docker + JetBrains, so we'll see how far I get in that.

I was thinking the same thing - probably the number that actually starts the course will be in the 90%s of the total and there will be a fair amount of attrition as the course proceeds.

It would be interesting to see what these numbers look like as well over the ten weeks.

I believe that was fixed in the most recent Mac version already - see the devs comments on the page. I have it installed on my MBP and have had no issues.

This is what I did when upgrading last year - bought a used one on eBay (which is a first for me - normally buy them new) - 2015 15" fully maxed out (fastest i7, 16GB, 1TB) and including the GPU, so it basically benchmarks only slightly slower than the top of the line current model.

I already had a TB2 hub and other TB2 peripherals and extra MagSafe 2 power supplies, so no additional investment in adapters, etc.

The kicker was the unit I bought has been purchased less than a year before I got it, so it was still eligible for AppleCare (you can check this w/ the serial number that most reputable eBay vendors provide). The time has probably passed for this, although you could still get a unit where someone else has already gotten it.

All in was US$ 2,050 including AppleCare

The trash can Mac Pro was an absolute disaster which was obviously designed in a completely isolated silo with zero input from external users of the Mac Pro.

Now Apple is taking two more years to "redesign" some more...

If Apple brought back the old Mac Pro case w/ a new motherboard, TB, USB-C, etc. - that alone would fly off the shelf (and would have for the last few years).

I like it for the electronics and hacking - like I said I've got an Amateur Extra class license and a 2x1 call sign, and I have literally NEVER keyed up - not even once.

I (Amateur Extra) ordered a BitX40 and about a month later they announced the uBitX... so I've ordered one of those, and not only going to hack the firmware and do some upgrades but also learn about 3D printing to make a case :)

I'm going to guess that persons who buy the AW3 w/ LTE are more likely to travel internationally.

Combine this with persons (like myself) who live in countries that are unlikely to ever get official support, and it is a bit frustrating to say the least.

Perhaps roaming, etc. will be a "feature" of the AW4...

I don't believe they can prevent US citizens from entering the US.

The number one issue with this festival for those of us in the Caribbean (and those of us who are also involved in the entertainment industry) is that this casts a very negative image on festivals here in general.

This is in spite of the fact that throughout the region, much larger and more elaborate events occur frequently, e.g. carnival in Trinidad (and everywhere else), St. Lucia Jazz Fest, Reggae Sumfest, SXM, countless large sporting events like the ICC Cricket World Cup, etc.

I'm performing at a new one called Tmrw.Tday in Negril in two weeks - luckily the Fyre thing happened too late to affect ticket sales for that one I think.

I got my FCC Amateur Extra Class license about a year ago - went from nothing to that, but I'm an EE so the technical part wasn't difficult - just had to cram for the regulations and best practices and stuff.

I got the ARRL study books for each class - Technician, General, Amateur Extra then did the online practice exams on the ARRL website.

i will check out that list as well - I have to tell you, though, wirecast on a modern MacBook Pro works really well - we have done live streams w/ several cameras, separate audio sources and multiple layers of graphic overlays and it has been rock solid.

This is the most popular commercial solution - you can demo it for 30 days I think.

Not super cheap, but a very versatile and solid product in my experience.

I'd also love to hear about open source alternatives.
