Same for all politicos.

OK, so why are such articles only written for hillary? Why are you so adamantly opposed to Hillary's practices when it is so incredibly common. How much of all this is about corruption and how much is it about bullying females?

This comment does not make sense -- it isnt like the robots will be shooting at Clay pigeon -- the robots will be killing humans. Right now, most of the targets end up being civilians, that can only go up.

That is for sure -- I cant recall a single positive experience with a RE broker. I realize this is a city-specific example, but for the new yorkers - i was looking for an apartment in the upper west side (which is generally considered to end at 96th st, perhaps 100 or 110th.) The broker said sure, and started pitching me on something at 135th. If i was an out-of-towner, I would not have known better, and what does 1.5mi matter anyway? In town, this is like comparing night and day.

How do brokers have the gall to straight-faced sell people on this stuff?

I pray that technology can disrupt this market.

Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami

because the pace of half the book so closely resembles my life, decisions, alternative histories and the limited time we have in the world. not sure how much more I can say without spoilers.

It would be nice to have an editor which can work locally and edit remotely using keyless SSH (e.g., using PEM files) which is a common use case for cloud setups like EC2. Near impossible getting this to work on Sublime or almost anything else. I'm surprised there isnt more developer request for such tools.

Easy - my ex-employer's HR department has an explicit policy of promoting when your staff grows. Part of it is a spreadsheet exercise at the end of the year and part of it is optics. The greater the staff I can show the higher the change of promotion. That was the deciding factor. Period.

I left that place because it was non-sensical, but it was a major employer in Connecticut, so i wonder how many other major employers have a similar policy.

Those may be inflation figures given my the government, but real life has real inflation -- like things that are not counted in the world bank inflation period. Could of questions to think about: - In real life, how much has your rent gone up by? - In real life, how much have your medical premiums and co-pays increased? - In real life, how much have your drug co-pays gone up?

Nice. Spoken like either 1. A trust fund kiddie with privileges to work for pleasure 2. An older person who purchased their family home before they started costing 3M$

No - when they sell you a security, the assumption is they were long until then (holding it) and then either disposed of their entire long position or disposed part of it (in which case they continue holding it long.)

The case where they are selling you something and are SHORT the product is a special case which requires more work usually. The most egregious case was the ABACUS deal (http://www.theworkingeconomy.com/simple-explanations-of-econ...) where Goldman was actively short the product and needed a dumb customer to unload the other side (enter Fabulous Fab and his widows orphans: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-goldman-emails-idUSTRE63O2...)

"As a founder I have 20% of the stock" You did pay, you just paid with hard work and lost easy income.

Wow, that is incredible short-sightedness. I saw comparisons like this back in 1999, before the industry fell apart. Before a generation of companies went under. Before stocks fall and render the total comp just cash comp. before you get pushed aside due to age discrimination. Also, one health-related event will wipe out a quarter of that nest-egg. You cant really retire...

Because yahoo mail offers a 20year treasure trove of email whereas a new email service would offer no such history. I, like many, started my first email account on Yahoo. It still lives, even though most current usage has migrated to gmail. Also, only a fool would use @dailymail as their primary account knowing the history of the paper's privacy violations.

I really detest when software engineer salaries are compared to the salaries of the general population (often to cite how our sector is "overpaid"). Usually lacking from such simple comparisons: 1. Discussion of how software engineers have to go to college for 4 to 6+ years, but the general population is weighted towards those far fewer years of schooling 2. Discussion of downtime -- the amount of time software engneers spend unemployed (due to economic cycle, startup bankruptcy, downsizing, etc.) compared to the general population (e.g., government workers for example have superb job security, often 100% lifetime job security.)

Sure, perhaps there isnt strong consumer demand. But with analysis and value-extraction from big-data becoming easier, and machine learning becoming more accessible, i think there will be plenty of commercial and industrial demand which can drive up need.

Several reasons for not leaving yet: 1. Headhunter wants his commission back (as other posters have noted, this may be illegal. Never crossed my mind!)

2. We moved to this new city, need to wait until June when school year is over.

3. We are in a small city, so interviewing is difficult, may not be able to get a job until i move to a sizeable city like SF or Austin or NY and start interviewing/networking on the ground.

That is not a bad idea actually. As long as we got a package or something. We moved to this small city in the hopes of joining this amazing startup working with amazing technology. The downside of leaving is multifold: 1. Headhunter wants his commission back 2. We are in a small city, so interviewing is difficult, may not be able to get a job until i move to a normal city like SF or Austin or NY and start interviewing/networking on the ground. 3. We moved to this new city, need to wait until June when schoolyear is over.
