Saildrone | Multiple Roles | Onsite/Hybrid (US Only) | SF Bay Area (Alameda) | Full-Time | https://www.saildrone.com/

Saildrone is the world's leading operator of uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs), providing persistent in situ data from the most challenging ocean environments on Earth. Our fleet, ranging from the 23-foot Explorer to the brand-new 170-foot Spectre, is revolutionizing how we understand and secure our oceans. We work with global navies to deliver maritime domain awareness, partner with governments to map the seafloor in high-resolution, and collaborate with scientists to track climate change and hurricane intensification in real-time.

Maybe you saw that we recently unveiled Spectre, a new class of high-speed USV designed for strike and anti-submarine warfare[1]. Or perhaps you read about our partnership with Meta, where we completed the first-of-its-kind autonomous deep-water cable survey[2]. You might have also seen our ongoing mission with NOAA to map 13,000 square miles of the Mariana Islands[3].

Whether we are hucking drones into Category 4 hurricanes or scaling up the production of the world’s largest autonomous wingsails, we are looking for people who want to build the future of maritime autonomy.

We're hiring for a breadth of different positions across our organization. In software, we're looking for folks in our Perception, Platform/Frontend, and Vehicle teams. Stacks vary, but we're looking primarily for backgrounds in C++ and/or JavaScript (Node, TypeScript, React). All software positions are hybrid roles based out of our HQ in Alameda, just a quick ferry ride across the Bay from San Francisco.

In addition to software, we are also actively hiring for roles in:

* Production & Manufacturing (Composite technicians, assembly, and electronics)

* Fleet Operations (Mission managers, vehicle pilots, etc.)

* Hardware Engineering (Mechanical, electrical, and systems)

Saildrone | Multiple Roles | Onsite/Hybrid (US Only) | SF Bay Area (Alameda) | Full-Time | https://www.saildrone.com/

Saildrone is the world's leading collector of ocean-related in situ data via uncrewed vehicle, above and below the sea surface. We work with navies across the world to deliver insights about waterways, contribute to safety of life at sea, and mitigate illegal fishing and trafficking. Additionally, we work with governments, civic agencies, foundations, universities, and private companies around the globe to derive better information about our oceans and seas - be it sailing drones into the eye of hurricanes to obtain new scientific storm data, mapping out the ocean floor, collecting new CO2 data in hard-to-reach areas, or counting biomass to establish fishing quotas.

Maybe you saw that we've repeatedly hucked drones into category 4 hurricanes[1]. Or maybe that we completed a transoceanic cable survey for Meta[2]. And maybe you saw that we just announced a large partnership with Lockheed Martin[3]. Or maybe you didn't see any of that, but you're still intrigued by the idea of autonomous, long endurance sailboats that help us better understand and secure our planet.

Whatever the case, we're hiring for a breadth of different positions across our organization. In software, we're hiring for folks in our Perception, Platform, Frontend, and Vehicle teams. In addition to software engineers, we're also hiring for a bunch of other positions across the company in production/manufacturing, technical operations, and more.

It's a bit situation- and role-dependent. Roles closer to the hardware/drones themselves invariably require some onsite work. But our backend and frontend roles are eligible for partial or full remote work on a role-by-role basis.

Next.js 9.2 7 years ago

The npm client largely resolved the issues Yarn was created to solve. I used Yarn for a while, but eventually switched all my projects back to npm.

I have to say, I'm pretty confused about what the state of 2.0 is. There's been no official announcement and the latest stable version on npm is 1.8.10[1]. That being said the latest release on GitHub is 2.0.2, with no official release of 2.0 (or 2.0.1 for that matter) listed anywhere[2]. There's also no active milestone on GitHub for the 2.0 release, but there is for patch versions of 2.0? I'm sure this all just means 2.0 hasn't been released yet, but it's super confusing.

Totally agreed. I'd probably prefer to see one or two alphabetic characters as the package name (i.e., us). But that's just me.

I think Ember and Ember Data are extremely interesting, but there are definitely some caveats to using Ember/ED over other MV* JS frameworks or rolling your own persistence layer.

I think this post does a good job of mentioning them, but I would also mention that a huge caveat I came across in a personal project (after I developed my API, of course) was that ED and Ember.Route don't support nested resources in APIs they consume. This means that you can't use conventions like /users/1/posts in your API, you have to use shallow resources (i.e., /posts?user=1). This is definitely a trivial detail if you haven't yet designed your API, but is kind of a pain in the ass if you don't know that going in and design your API with nested resources first (as I did).

Overall, I like what I'm seeing so far. The notable exception is that they removed the build status indicator for Pull Requests from the PR body and now only show the faint green check next to a commit hash. Makes determining whether a PR is good to merge a bit more difficult IMHO. Hopefully that gets fixed.

I almost can't believe someone would commit their .ssh directory to a public GitHub repo.

Seriously - why? Your public key, sure, but the entire directory?
