The guy talking to businesses wasn't talking on his own behalf. He was representing Google and acting on Google's behalf. It's stupid to suggest that he was doing this for his own profit.

Google not only makes money off of Apple products but pretty much any product from where one can search. That includes all the android devices as well. Which makes you wonder why are they pushing android at all. People are used to using Google so no matter what OS, they are going to use it anyways Why spend billions of dollars developing and defending it?

Probably was necessary to keep the beautiful hardware intact to change the guts completely in less than a year. Look at iPhone 4S. Almost no visual changes in exterior in a year and a half and the OS didn't change that much either... why change the looks of something that is already so beautiful.

The 710 looks ok but the 800 is pretty nice imo.

The 800 basically looks like N9 with Windows Phone OS on it. Hope the OS has met its match in this hardware. The pictures sure look stunning.

I love how they copied the people UI and the addressbook from Windows Phone. Good ideas are to be copied. Thanks for bringing them to android.

If only this gets integrated with the windows phone, I will be so happy. With the FB chat integration I have already dropped my sms plan as most of my messaging is now via FB. If I get skype, I will go on bare minimum voice plan too.

I hope this computer facilitates that need. I have visited rural parts and have seen schools that barely have the most basic infrastructure such as a proper school building and full time teacher.

I doubt that is the case. With employment at record highs and good jobs not available I don't think people would rather sit idle than take up a job in .Net. The article can also be rephrased as "Demand for .Net developers surges." Of course it won't be as newsworthy then :)

Pretty much sums up what we have seen so far

Windows Phone is an infant platform as compared to Apple and Android. But yet look at how fast they learnt after the NoDo delays. Have you gotten the Mango update yet? It rolled out to exsting phones already. And that is not just in US but worldwide. How many updates has Android pushed so soon to its existing phones and that too so widely?

Thats why I love the Windows Phone and Apple model rather than android. Windows Phone has had more and frequent updates and they are delivered more consistently across carriers. Same is true for Apple.

And the consumer demand is very directly influenced by the job market. With so many people out of work. Many of us who do have jobs are cautious to not spend beyond our means. Its a vicious circle.

Of course the goal of a public company to make money I can't blame these guys to hoarde all the money they can. Thats what their shareholders and directors demand.

You never know it may be built but just not released. I think its perfectly fair to patent it even though it sounds creepy. The expectation of privacy are changing in people's minds. Probably Facebook thinks that they want to keep the feature ready and not release it until the time is right. And obviously if anybody else releases it before them (most likely Google) then they can use the patent to prevent them from doing so.

In fact Google copied this from Bing. But the difference is that Google is a search monopoly whereas bing is just a distant second or third depending how you look at it.

Sometimes I get a feeling that the hivemind of HN is critical of anything that is not associated google. I could be wrong as I am a fairly new user. But that's just what I have observed in last few weeks.

I think M already got out of yahoo what they wanted. Why buy the cow when you can get milk for cheap? It appeared like a win-win for both now only if yahoo could execute on their mission to be a great media company...

Where did you see automatic sharing of everything. From what I read, you will always have control of what you share. They can't afford to repeat the past mistakes around sharing. It'd be fatal now.

The full list of updates is still there on the left side where you have a live stream of updates flowing all the time. Of course it fills up real quick but its still there. Also on the left side they have list tabs using which you can go to the old familiar UI. I for one like the newer UI better.

Keep it around. Its a hook to get people to use the mac ecosystem. That's the product that started the resurrection of mac. I'm sure Apple will keep it around and keep on making minor changes to it overtime.

More than sharing it is closer to broadcasting all my activities to my friends. But I think Facebook is onto something here. What if this broadcast in future can be curated and only interesting things get displayed automatically. What if it looks at what our friends are doing and gets recommendations? Excessive sharing is just the first steps towards this.

Yup. That is my favorite game on Windows Phone.

To the end result it looks the same though. In fact many of my non-techie friends click on adverts thinking they are the search results. Either the ads are too good or thhat they are very well placed.
