I am working a SaaS document asset management services called Doccie

At the same time I am exploring the boundary of my ability to think deeper

Thus writing a monthly newsletter that will span for 10 years. Right now it has a open rate over 70%

https://connectingdotsessay.substack.com/

Here are the essays

## Eight Grade syndrome - why grand narrative vision is killing your startup

If you think crafting a grand narratives of your idea is the crucial first step of building a startup, this essay is for you.

## Explorer Mindset - In a world where algorithms decide what we see, how can we rediscover the joy of unexpected discoveries?

If you feel trapped in a narrow view point, surrounded by the veil, and lack of creation muse, this article is for you.

## Why I show up everyday. The peddle, podium, creators and us.

If you are interested in why I started this newsletter and what I learned from it so far, this essay is for you.

Any feedback is appreciated!

yeah... it's my fault of using the wrong URL. I am not intended to clickbait people. What a dumb thing. Sorry guys

I am glad to read this article which poke around the idea of "Pixel Perfection", for me that is indeed time-wasted, and I don't know why there are lots of company keeps saying they want this kind of "Perfection".

But I do believe people care quality, what they did is comparing the quality with price, Netflix is a bad example since it's so cheap (compared to seeing movie or a show in theater). The viewer saw a bad movie they will just think, oh well, I don't care.

I think this article treat result as the resaon, company didn't incentivize the "Glue work" is not purely they don't want to and also "They don't know how to do that".

Ask ourselves, calculate one's efficiency is already hard, how to calculate one's effectiveness on other's efficiency. Just like author said.

If individual employees are willing to lift their local team to 80% or 90% efficiency by burning their time on glue work, companies will take that free value

They take it for granted without really calculating the benefit. That is part of the reason why a small, gifted, and high-efficiency startup can operate and take over these giant company.

It all depends on what you want to achieve

In a world where algorithms decide what we see, how can we rediscover the joy of unexpected discoveries?

Personal observation: Company use this strategy to redirect user into using their cloud platform and open-source is an go-to-market strategy.

I think this pattern is not that harsh if they have a script to guarantee setting up a k8s cluster or some sort of that.

I love this story because it shows, at least anecdotally, how deep scientific insights can emerge from the simplest of experiments. It's a testament to the idea that you don't always need sophisticated equipment to unlock the secrets of nature — sometimes, all it takes is a drop of oil and a bit of ingenuity.

This can apply to many other fields too!

Recently I have a harsh experience with my AWS account. I made a dumb thing, my email inbox is registered under a domain, and somehow my domain's MX record is gone and I can not receive email from AWS to authenticate to the right account to fix that MX record. So I am permanently banned away from that account due to the policy of AWS

Quite silly, yes. At the same time, I do think this scenario can represent a possibility when people need to rely on only one way to authenticate their entry. That is really frustrating when you make dumb thing under this circumstance.

The results were a 90% reduction in costs and a 30% improvement in performance.

I am in a company with dedicated infra team and my CEO is a infra enthusiastic. He use terraform and k8s to build the company's infra. But the results are.

- Every deployment take days, in my experience, I need to woke for 24 hr streak to make it work. - The infra is complicated to a level that quite hard to adjust

And benefits wise, I can't even think about it. We don't have many users so the claimed scalability is not even there.

I will strongly argue startup should not touch k8s until you have fair user base and retention.

It's a nightmare to work with.

I got burned out recently too, and it is such a frustrated feeling. And made me begin to think what it comes from and what is the root cause of it

I think in my experience, lack by appreciation is one of the reason

After thinking about it several month I wrote an article to help others cope with the situation of lacking appreciation

https://open.substack.com/pub/connectingdotsessay/p/apprecia...

Hope it can help others whom is entering the same situation

Your boundary is at hue 189, bluer than 98% of the population. For you, turquoise is green.

That is interesting, I usually address my monitor to make it look darker and more lean toward warm color, guess this will affect the result

I feel the same in the paragraph. But in some situation it seems rational

Figma still limits you from editing the component if someone is on it. And Figjam did that too. In my mind, this is a good practice in the realm of collaborative design. Because it will be very messy if a single component obeys the last-write-win rule

Hi everyone, I am recently developing a platform called Pnyx, what I try to do is, re-build the user interface of online discussion with graph.

In short, nowadays discussion seem to be fragmented and filled with polarized messages. I think it's not due to lack of gardener or mod, but the structure make people act like it. With the Feed structure(Reddit, social media), the main activity become browsing not discussing.

The first step I try to do is build a very small app that let user have persist discussion thread on it. Due to it's not a social media post or reddit post, it won't be flooded away by lots of content. So you may have persist and long conversation on it.

This is the first problem I want to solve, and graph is another story, to avoid the words/insight ratio being to low I would like to leave it for another post.

Very looking forward to have great discussion about this project, If you are interested, you can fill up the form (https://forms.gle/Uk1RfUeEmMcvkYSU9) or join discord(https://discord.gg/Qve3u9gahE)(btw, this tool is terrible for deep discussion) to stay in touch.
