Vantage | Founding Solutions Architect / FDE | NYC and Remote | Full Time
Vantage is an a16z-backed FinOps / Cloud Cost Management platform that helps 15,000+ organizations globally like Block, Canva, Temporal, Rippling, FanDuel, CircleCI, etc manage their cloud, SaaS and AI costs. As a Solutions Architect, you will work hands-on with Vantage’s most strategic and technically complex customers to ensure successful adoption and long-term value. This is a highly technical, customer-facing role focused on implementation, architecture, and problem-solving, rather than pure support or customer success.
We're a well funded Series A company and [backed by a16z, Scale venture partners and founders of Cloudflare, DigitalOcean and Segment]. The company is between 50-75 people today and scaling up quickly.
We're headquartered in NYC but US-remote friendly (sorry, we can't handle international at this time).

Good feedback! Having someone on our team get this completed for you.
Huh...weird. I just looked into this and we do have us-east-1-chi-1....but not chi-2. It appears that chi-2 isn't being returned at all as part of the bulk pricing API from AWS for some reason. We'll see if we can dig deeper on why that's the case but just wanted to let you know that's the root issue from our end.
It's been open-source for 10+ years and the repo is linked in the top right of the site. Here's a link: https://github.com/vantage-sh/ec2instances.info
We'd greatly appreciate contributions!
Founder of Vantage here and former AWS employee.
We actually recently made the decision to staff someone full time on the site just to maintain it for the community. Even the JSON file for the site gets hit hundreds of thousands of times per day...feels like it's become kind of the de-facto source of truth in the community for where to get reliable AWS pricing information and I believe its powering a pretty remarkable amount of downstream applications with how much usage its getting.
We acquired the site almost 5 years ago and want to continue to improve it for the community. If you have any cloud cost management needs, we're also able to help for our main business here: https://www.vantage.sh/
Awesome to see all the comments on it here!
[Not a sales pitch - just answering the questions]
This AWS EC2 site is just an open-source project and site we maintain for the benefit of the community. So it's not directly our business but it promotes our brand and is just a helpful site that I think should exist. It's very popular and has been around for about 15 years now.
Our main business hosted on the main domain of https://www.vantage.sh/ is around cloud cost management across 25 different providers (AWS, Azure, Datadog, OpenAI, Anthropic, etc) and the use-cases there about carving up one bill and showing specific costs back to engineers for them to be held accountable to, take action on, etc. Cloud costs and their impact on companies' margins is a big enough problem for vendors like us to exist and we're one player in a larger market.
https://instances.vantage.sh/ recently added alerts for any pricing changes on EC2, including newly launching new instances. The site rebuilds every 4 hours so it usually breaks the pricing news first. I have it on for myself and its super helpful just to see when AWS changes things.
[Disclaimer, I'm CEO of Vantage - the company that maintains the site]

Co-Founder and CEO of https://vantage.sh/ here - I've been pretty impressed by the rate that repatriation is happening off of public cloud. It rarely ever came up and in the last year it's been popping up more and more -- and especially just for getting access to GPU workloads.
I thought there would be a greater unbundling to AWS or to cheaper providers but it seems like a good-sized portion of the market is just going back to managing their own hardware.

We just launched an MCP for getting data from the dataset behind EC2instances.info. This includes both pricing as well as specification data from the site including:
- Hardware specs (CPU, memory, storage, networking) - Pricing (on-demand, reserved, etc) - Region availability - Instance-specific features (Graviton, NVMe, EFA)
Would appreciate feedback and thoughts on this as we're trying to get information to people via MCP to keep up with the times :)

Look at the early days of AWS vs recent years. The fact that AWS services have been basically flat since 2019 in a high-inflation environment is actually pretty dang good on a relative basis.
I started https://www.vantage.sh/ - a cloud cost platform that tracks Infra & AI spend.
The $100k/dev/year figure feels like sticker shock math more than reality. Yes, AI bills are growing fast - but most teams I see are still spending substantially lower annually, and that's before applying even basic optimizations like prompt caching, model routing, or splitting work across models.
The real story is the AWS playbook all over again: vendors keep dropping unit costs, customers keep increasing consumption faster than prices fall, and in the end the bills still grow. If you’re not measuring it daily, the "marginal cost is trending down" narrative is meaningless - you’ll still get blindsided by scale.
I'm biased but the winners will be the ones who treat AI like any other cloud resource: ruthlessly measured, budgeted, and tuned.
The http://ec2instances.info/ of the LLM era ;)
tl;dr We re-wrote the entire codebase that was backing https://ec2instances.info/ - the popular EC2 instance price comparison tool. Its much, much faster.
I'm Co-Founder & CEO of Vantage - we're a cloud cost management tool. We acquired ec2instances.info about four years ago. The site has grown from about 275,000 visitors to nearly 4,000,000 visitors in that time frame. The codebase backing it was...rough. It was over 10 years old and was never meant for this much usage or this much data....AWS has launched a lot of EC2 instances over the years.
As a result, we did a complete re-write. We have a new modern codebase backing the site that makes it blazingly fast compared to its old self. We also can deliver much, much faster on product feature requests as well so if you have requests please feel free to open issues on the underlying repo here: https://github.com/vantage-sh/ec2instances.info
And yet they still have a ~90% gross margin -- honestly not too shabby!
A few things.
The biggest is giving the LLM context. On Vantage we have a primitive called a "Cost Report" that you can think of as being a set of filters. So you can create a cost report for a particular environment (production vs staging) or by service (front-end service vs back-end service). When you ask questions to the LLM, it will take the context into account versus just looking at all of the raw usage in your account.
Most of our customers will create these filters, define reports, and organize them into folders and the LLM takes that context into account which can be helpful for asking questions.
Lastly, we support more providers beyond AWS so if you wanted to merge in other associated costs like Datadog, Temporal, Clickhouse, etc.
For those interested in S3 Tables which is referenced in this blog post, we literally just published this overview on what they are and cost considerations of them that people might find interesting: https://www.vantage.sh/blog/amazon-s3-tables
Absolutely wild.
Just as a community-supported plug here on the billing documentation front, we just launched https://cur.vantage.sh/ which we will never paywall. It's meant to be a free resource for looking up AWS billing codes with descriptions in layman's terms...specifically because AWS' documentation is so sparse/rough here.
We also maintain https://ec2instances.info/ which we'll try to add more documentation to (we recently added helpful docs and articles on each instance type page) to try and help the broader community.
I'm the author of the blog post and the CEO of https://vantage.sh/
I kind of agree that I don't love the term. That being said it has become the de-facto way that people refer to the space and practice. The FinOps Foundation hyped up the term and space quite a bit which they deserve credit for but do wish there was a better name :)
