This may just seem silly and superficial, but I find the demonstration picture with colored indenting would actually be quite useful. Perhaps not coloring the code itself but more the number of tabstops until the code.

Seriously? 3 pictures, poor use of 'Hack', and posted to YC News? The end result being "don't put too much ice in your drink"? This is one of the few times I could downvote.

To be honest it's too slow to be of any use. It just feels clunky. I would use it if it were fast, but having to wait for the javascript to catchup is pointless. The autocomplete doesn't help when it pops up after I have paused for a second. If I type "you" very fast and hit tab, it won't always autosuggest in time. To make things worse, you are going to be directly competing against Ubiquity.

Another big annoyance is how dumbed down it makes a terminal. If I want to do a youtube search i feel like I should be able to simply write "youtube blue man group". I don't want to have to add in "search for" or add in square brackets around my query.

The main problem is that I can see that it's there. I use a terminal to avoid having to interact with an interface. I agree with Google's Chrome philosophy, that they don't want you to notice the browser at all. Spend your time figuring out how to make it faster and easier and then you've got something you can show off. I would be worried about Ubiquity though as a browser plugin can work so much faster than javascript.

First and second are similar yes, however Google is not just a search engine. They have a dedicated base of Gmail users, they have a great advertising service. They have youtube (although are thinking it less and less likely to turn a profit). It would be a huge blow yes if Microsoft somehow overcame Google in search functionality, however it would not be the end of Google.

Make it four. It's really frustrating to have to read two words at a time in places. To shorten the video and keep people reading combine slides. There were two that were "...global community and..." "...diversity..." that could have easily been one. The point is to get your message across, not show me as many pretty pictures as you can.

Several reasons.

First - if Microsoft managed to somehow make a more powerful search with PowerSet then they are still lacking in reputation. Rep alone will get a large portion of Google users to stay with them.

Second - People in general don't like Microsoft. Sure they have some great products (don't knock Windows and Office, the world does run on them even though there are other great platforms/editors) but they have lost face due to poor support options and annoying aspects of the interface

Third - Google is not just a search engine.

I never said I wanted something gimmicky, I never said I wasn't personally environmentally conscious. I like to do everything I can in all aspects of my life to try and leave as small of a footprint as I can. I have never owned a car, I became a vegetarian for its environmental (not animal rights bullshit) reasons (10 pounds of grain or a pound of beef?), and leave the furnace off for a good part of the winters even though I am Canadian.

I'm not wanting some company to hold my hand and make mne feel like I'm making a difference, because I know I am. I'm saying I want a company that cares as much as I do. I want one that does power its servers off of 100% renewable resources. and not to say to my customers "LOOK! I CARE!".

I understand the best I'm going to get it someone purchasing offset credits, but that's better than nothing. So please sir do not judge me before you know me, do not make assumptions about what I am doing. I don't want a buzzword, I want solutions.

Sorry, that widget just gives that little dropdown redirecting to their site? I meant that I was going to just provide an info page where the user can still get the information on my site, just not in the same flashy page as everyone else.

I'm actually building a web app with a small start up, and we just do not have the time to make our service ie6 compatible. We are going to let users know that and redirect them to a very plane jane site where you can still get the information but not very efficiently. However our market is mainly tech savvy people so it should work out.

Most web apps out there do make money, or have a plan to. Even if it is free to the user there is usually a revenue plan in place. Not many people will host a large scale web app from their pocket and not make any money from it.

Good tale, however poorly written. Over half of the article told the story of the company. The story should have mentioned more about why it failed and it's rescue measures (the last third) instead of trying to draw the reader in emotionally to a business article.

Good concept, but could be implemented better. Definitely make the logo sizes at the top the same size. Don't stretch or anything, but leave grayspace between them. It just looks cluttered right now.

Center the instructions vertically as to not have so much empty space. Although it will still be the same amount, it will look like less.

How about multithreading? As in when you click on one it becomes active, allowing you to have more than one news source active at a time. Weave the news entries by date and color code them (not everything, but maybe a color code a symbol at the start).

If you implement the above, how about having categories? Sports, world and business, etc? The possibility for sports from the New York Times and International Business from Reuters would be a major feature.

Like I said, great idea. Some more work would make it amazing.

*edit: I like my scrollbar. I have come to expect my scrollbar from websites. Give me my scrollbar back, it acts as a visual clue to where I am and it allows for intuitive navigation. Don't force me to use your system.

Yes, but that is seconds users do not want to take. I'd advice letting them edit it, but have a small notification at the top letting them know that it will be lost without an account. Cookies are unreliable but they may help.

Unfortunately this is not an option. One of our team is working on the west coast, the other three are east coast. We currently do not have an office - we are a home based organization (we are coding and running around contacting potential clients/investors).

We are having weekly meetings to get everyone back on the same page as the work is largely independent at this point.

I just went to a physiotherapist about this very issue, here's what I was told.

First, I've been experiencing a dull pain shooting up the BACKS of my hands to my wrists, following the middle finger. This may or may not be what you have, and I recommend looking into this yourself. It cost me 80 CAD to visit a physiotherapist and it was worth every penny. If you are going to be typing for the next 5, 10 years or longer (here's hoping we get a better input system...) I urge you to visit at the first bit of pain.

Onto the diagnoses. A primer on the human body: the nerves and blood vessels that get to your hands come from your spinal cord. To get there they must pass under the collarbone and above the first rib. My problem is that I have a slight posture problem (no one has ever noticed it) where my shoulders slouch forward a bit. This is very common for people that use the computer a lot, and it was compounded by my height (6'3''). As I am a tall person, I slouch while talking to people, inspecting things, pretty much whenever I do anything in a world built for the average sized guy.

This posture problem results in a small constricting of the space between the collarbone and the first rib - putting pressure on the blood vessels and nerves going through there. This causes extra strain whenever you pull on these items (which you do while moving the fingers). To make matters worse I do not do a lot of upper body exercise. I run 3k a day and bike about an hour and a half, but none of these tasks work my back muscles. While typing for extended periods of time these muscles recognize they are not needed and 'shut off' to conserve energy. If they were used more they would not be shut off as quick. When they are shut off the shoulders slouch more.

I was recommended a series of stretches to help the constricting of the blood vessels and nerves. I was also recommended to start swimming regularly to build muscle. I have also started using the program "instant boss" (quick and dirty program) to have a 10 and 2 schedule - 10 minutes on and 2 off. I follow it religiously.

I'd define the stretches but my hands are hurting a bit and I need to stop typing. I do recommend seeing a physiotherapist yourself though to get customized stretches that fit your body type. Take breaks, really read up on ergonomics.

I'm also confused about why you need a valid email address for the payments. A little clarification would be good.

I would recommend against the Google account login system, I prefer to try to keep some of my life secret from Google.

I personally think that this is one of the dumbest ideas for a debate in a long time. There are so many other venues for debate. I assume that this is in an attempt to get 'young people' to gain some insight into politics, but all that we are going to get is well formulated responses from each candidates representatives. Unlike an actual debate the nominees will be able to take several minutes to compose their answers and check against previous statements and their advisers.
