Regarding being dual-taxed, the US has dual taxation treaties with almost every country, so you can deduct the taxes you pay to another country from your US taxes. e.g. If you move to France, you'll pay taxes there, and when you file in the US you'll get credit for those taxes paid. There are numerous other complications for federal taxes as well! But you probably won't flat-out pay double.

I wrote a rails web app running on heroku. For the game server binaries, I spun up a server in a data center and control it using bash scripts that run in background jobs on heroku. I wrote jobs to do various tasks, like update config file, restart server, create initial server.

This article deserves the heavy criticism it has received here. I'll go further and say it is part of a trend you might call skepticism gone wrong. This is a intellectual movement that "throws the baby out with the bathwater" because they are so skeptical that they don't believe anything!

Many authors in this vein have read about, for example, cognitive bias, the many invalid results in scientific journals and the hoax/fake news/infowars trend. They see every human action as a result of bias, every result as invalid, and every news article as part of a misinformation campaign.

Having the most accurate possible understanding of the world we live in is only possibly by trusting information sources which deserve it, understanding the limits of what "quick and dirty" statistical analysis is capable of, and recognizing when people are influenced by bias, and also when people are acting with full awareness of bias.

This journalist [1] wrote a great book [2] about the lack of press freedom in Rwanda, and western complicity in press crackdowns. He's an amazing guy--accepted a job at Goldman during college, then reneged on the job to fly one-way to Africa and become a freelance journalist. That's without any experience as a journalist!

It took me over five years in this business to fully internalize this. Programmers (me included) often complain about clueless entrepreneurs in this business, but even more rare than a good programmer is a good entrepreneur, who can sell/market and turn code into money.

Do not take this personally. Companies make mistakes in the interviewing process and reject great people all the time. I have seen some absolutely amazing programmers with the chops to work anywhere look for jobs. There is always at least one company that rejects them. It's their loss.

Do not assume that you did something wrong. The mistake could be on their part. You made it through all of those technical interviews, so you will be able to find work somewhere!
