I seem to see this as an upfront declaration on the requirements. I think, this 70+ hours work week involves reading and learning too.

I am a senior dev and work in a fortune 10 company. I only do it for money. I used to very excited about software, but after 10 years of development have realized, only few get to have fun at software and also get paid for it.

I have been in bay area for the last 4 years. I moved to bay area for better opportunity. As an Indian, I find bay area more conducive. I moved from deep south (Alabama). Our combined family income is around 350K and with that we were able to afford a very good home in east bay in good school district. I think, the perspective needs to change. If you come to bay area, you are coming here for opportunity in the tech world and it's not going to be easy here. There are many talented people here and to make it here, you have to compete and compete hard.

I agree with this. I have been involved in writing software for online standards based testing. The software was being used by schools. But, it never took off. After many years of bootstrapping, the founders sold the company. I can summarize from my experience that software/hardware combinations in the classroom was difficult to scale because of : 1. Not enough fund to buy the hardware. 2. Not enough interest from teachers to move to a software based testing. 3. Not enough pressure from school district to move to software based testing.

Why do you need this when self park car will soon be available ?

Something is being covered up and the explanation for such huge mistake doesn't add up. 1. Why was such a large amount of a potent virus stored in one container or multiple container? 2. Why all of it was available to a single/group of persons ? 3. If it's a group of person, then it must be a planned act. 4. How can Pharmaceutical companies pour something directly into the water channels without going through some kind of filteration and detection system ? 5. Why there is not more internet/media coverage on a such a big incident ?

I think, the approach is right but the implementation can be more elegant. Keeping scalability and readability in mind, I would use more declarative/DSL syntax to fine control your resources. Django uses the metaclass to achieve something similar.

Yes. it can. Scikit-learn supports algorithms that can be used to build your own recommender system. To scale your algorithms you can always use hadoop map/reduce to scale.

I am a javascript/java developer. But, I like thinking in terms of the underlying algorithm. E.g if I am doing a sort, I will like to think where the sorting should be done (javascript, java or sql) and what underlying sorting mechanism are being used. It's not necessary but a good skill to have. If you start just thinking about the underlying algorithm associated with a data structure/operations on the data structure and then start digging deeper, I think you will be able to hone your skills.

There cloudmine.me also. They are providing similar services. I think mobile BAAS is a limited market. But, domain based BAAS is a huge market. You can never build a backend model to suffice the needs of different mobile apps. It will be difficult to build a backend model for EMR system but providing a backend model to convert dicom data for consumption on a mobile platform will be a good service.
