As one of the folks who was able to try these on (thanks Morgan), I can say that the initial impression is speechlessness.

Both Sass and LESS are CSS preprocessors, which allow writing clean CSS in a programming construct instead of static rules.
LESS is inspired by Sass. Sass was designed to both simplify and extend CSS, so things like curly braces were removed from the syntax. LESS was designed to be as close to CSS as possible, so the syntax is identical to existing CSS code. As a result, existing CSS can be used as valid LESS code.
The newer versions of Sass also introduced a CSS-like syntax called SCSS (Sassy CSS).
Completely agree with you there. I think in the right place it can give a different perspective. One of the above graphics looks like you're looking down onto a monument so to that degree it could be used but I know I wouldn't even get away with 'flat design' with most of my clients as they would say a 5-year-old had done it and it wasn't worth the price tag.
As with most things design it's about getting the appropriateness of technique to task.
Although everyone is hoping for Apple to finally catch up – or at least for an modern / flat / current design – I really believe Apple is going to pitch its changes as a leap forward, not catching up.
I’m not expecting any Tile or Android-flat like design, i am however expecting something that will “again” differentiate them from the rest. Can’t wait!

I can't believe that the threshold for a DMCA notice claim is simply that LayerVault is the sole owner of the works. No where did LayerVault specify which works they were claiming (aside from saying the whole thing was theirs) which it obviously isn't based upon the differences.
