Also for healthcare. Nuance is a big player in the healthcare market. A whole segment where DL approaches are not suitable due to lack of transparency.

But it isn’t. I am still actively involved in NLG both professionally and academically and neural NLG systems have great promise but are still far from actively delivering tangible solutions to areas such data-to-text NLG. Inaccuracy, hallucinations are still highly problematic.

I very much disagree. There are use case such as weather reporting, electronic medical report summarisation, etc. That make more sense as a textual representation than bundles of graphs and tables. In fact textual summarisation has been shown to lead to better decision making[1].

Good data-to-text NLG applications not only summarise data but they also can provides insight into causal relations of why events occurred by leveraging domain knowledge.

I guess this effects all companies that run a platform whether it be social or market based. The question is what can a company do prevent bad internal actors without put their employees under draconian rules?

The real question is whether a programming language that has lost traction, mindshare, and focus ever gained it back? It's probably no coincidence that Python's rise was at the same time of Perl's stagnation.

I don't agree 100% with the author, but I do wholeheartedly agree that the relevance of FSF movement definitely peaked after the ratification of GPLv3. After which, the relevance and political visibility of the movement has decreased significantly as we moved from PC/Laptops being our primary computing device to smartphones.

Yes it is. NLG is the sister field to NLP.

One thing I keep hoping for is improvements in the UI side of LibreOffice. I presume under Windows and Linux the UI feels more fluid and natural, but under macOS it is definitely inferior to that of MS Office or Apple’s iWork apps.

Is there a really need for this type of product? With the choice of either collecting your parcel from a delivery office or the multitude of delivery lockers that are popping up everywhere is this a problem that needs solving? Perhaps someone could help me to understand if there are particular scenarios where this would be beneficial to allow this form of parcel delivery.

Another alternative is that you may get a Galapagos island effect where Chinese firms do innovate, but their innovation is tied to the cultural and regulatory norms and not very applicable outside of China. The same effect was seen with Japanese cell phone companies pre-smartphone era.

Yes and no. For the most premature babies in the low 20s week gestation they have minimal physical contact with their parents. However older preterm infants do receive Kangroo care with their mothers.

Really interesting text-to-text generation work. There’s also some work being looking at using Neural Networks for data-to-text generation. Some of which was presented at INLG 2016 last year at Edinburgh. However, it is still early days and currently symbolic approaches still achieve better text quality in closed world applications.

The reputational damage is in some ways will be bigger than the fine itself.

Isn't this a case where Intel should not of talked about their internal R&D until they had a clear product & message to bring the market? I wonder if this lack of discipline cost Larrabee the correct narrative that it should have.

Well technology helped to eliminate the flight engineer role on modern planes. Technology could eliminate the need for a co-pilot, but the problem here is the lack of trust of having a single human in the loop. Plus the additional issues that others have mentioned e.g. pilot suicide, etc.

I wonder if it’s worth having any media organisation run a comments section. With so many commenting platforms that are available for the masses (Twitter, Medium, Reddit, etc.), I wonder if a comments section is more or less a relic of days when there wasn’t a plethora ways of getting your opinion across.

Fructose, which Lustig (and other scientists) suspect as the prime cause is present in both HFCS and granulated sugar (cane or beet). It’s my understanding that the difference in fructose quantity between HFCS (55% Fructose, 45% glucose) and granulated sugar (50-50) is not a significant factor.

Except recently social networks, such as LinkedIn, takes note of any inactivity and will send periodic “enticer” emails in an attempt to increase you engagement with their site.

I'm surprised that a lot of the leaked information about DuPont's process came from disgruntled ex-employees. Surely DuPont's problem is with those ex-employees leaking sensitive information than anything else.
