No doubt! My father is suffering from Alzheimer’s and I have just been told that I have a few months left due to colorectal cancer. I can only wonder if there are/was/is something delaying better treatments for my condition. I am now on the hunt for alternative treatment options for me, and one of the molecules that has been suggested is highly controversial as it was suggested as a covid treatment.

After reading the article I didn’t pick up what any of the advantages are of 28hr days other than being able to communicate with other regions of the world on certain days. I suppose that could be a very important factor for some people who do work in a geographically dispersed area. A few things I would be concerned with are: 1) your SO is not on the same schedule and really for what isn’t a solid reason. I could see this becoming a source of resentment at some point. 2) you have to cut people out of your life vs explaining the schedule when they don’t understand why. I understand that the lectures would likely get tiresome at some point, but it seems a bit selfish to switch to this schedule when it could become problematic for friends and family members. 3) I think cardio and total health should be measured and monitored as part of the experiment. It is entirely possible that this schedule can have real benefits for health or at the least not negatively affect your health. You mention that you are able to workout more often and effectively, so it may also be interesting to track your fitness level on the schedule vs 24 hr days. It would just be anecdotal but it would at least be some data.

I guess the only other things I would want to know is what factors pushed most to switching schedules? How long do you plan to stay on the schedule? How does your employer handle this schedule change? Or are you self employed/running a business? What do you think the biggest challenges are during the switch aside from being tired at hour 10-11? What does your SO really think about this schedule? The more I think about this, the more questions I have :)

Lightning is a great example of noise causing amplitude changes and not frequency changes. That’s why during a thunderstorm am radio plays each strike between the station and you. The is usually not any indication of lightning strikes on FM.

I’m not Left Wing. I’m certainly not right wing. However the latest trend for the Kamala campaign has in my case decided to follow the technical details of stop but not the intended scenario. I got a text message from the campaign fundraiser and clicked stop. Next day same time. Same first 6 digits different last 4. I hate politics. I’m not going to vote based off of a text.

I had an original iPhone and did not get such statements. As I recall while Cingular was indeed not ready to handle unlimited data for customers, it wasn’t really a problem for the first iPhone since it wasn’t 3g. Once the 3g dropped , it was a problem since people were actually able to consume a large amount of data.

I was directly hit by Beryl, and just got power back today. For us, the issue was trees taking out the power lines. We live on acreage with a lot of pecan trees, and lost 4 of them in the storm. 2 of them toppled over on the power line. I personally don't think that Centerpoint has done a bad job here, Houston is a large land mass and there is no way that you can get everyone back online with as much wind damage as we sustained much quicker than what happened. This storm was so much different than Harvey, which was a flood event. We did have some flooding but nowhere near that level with Beryl. Really, its just one of those situations that just sucks, and there isnt a whole lot you can really do about it.

Things have gotten much easier in some cases. I have sampled and cleared 2 different songs on tracklib for a reasonable price for me (50 bucks plus 10% royalties). Bedroom producers can now release their music with samples without a crazy clearance fees in many cases. Some samples/artists will still be only available for those with the means to pay 4-5 figure sample fees, but I think that is more the exception than the rule now.

I rebuilt a Rhodes electric piano. Mine was in ok shape but the Rolex was ripped and some notes were hard to play. Turns out all the screws holding it together were bent.

Bought some duratex roll on coating (similar to truck bed liner) and recovered it. Then went to the hardware store and bought replacement screws and bolts to reassemble the keyboard.

Can’t believe how much better it plays now. Butter smooth.

Not the original poster but for me it means not having to look at my phone for many tasks. I can see who texted or messaged me and the message without opening my phone. I can take or ignore a call. Basically anything that hits your message alerts can be displayed on the watch in most cases.

Maybe the Apple Watch is not the best fitness tracker watch but it’s plenty good for me and it’s health integration is pretty good especially with the ultra.

What I don’t understand is how does Boeing expect to make the issues go away? Covering up the problems just kicks the can down the road. They still have shoddy planes out in the world. Is quarterly performance now more important than not having planes fall out of the sky somewhere later on? I guess I’m naive here.

Distrokid falsely flags music as botted?

I use distrokid and iirc the founder posts here would like to know if there is any truth to the allegations in the video.

I think there is another thing that bothers me about infrasonic being “too low to hear”.

It’s not true. It’s grossly oversimplified. I could generate a 1hz signal that I can hear. It’s not the same as something at 400hz but it’s clearly audible with proper sound equipment.

Now as that relates to tornadoes I live in a state where there are occasional tornadoes. Every time one has been close you hear the approach.

I don’t know why it is a thing. But it is. Can give you a great example.

I was diagnosed in 2020. Went to a local oncologist who said (initially) I was stage 1. We caught it early. Then they do the colon resection and I wake up to the news that I’m stage 3c. I went through a 6 month treatment which knocked it back using the standard treatment (FOLFOX) and it was undetectable. Cut to 6 months later and it was back with a vengeance.

My oncologist ordered genetic testing right at the same time I decided to go to MD Anderson. The first thing that they wanted to do was the same genetic test. Great we say. My old oncologist ordered it.

My insurance BCBS declined to pay because my old oncologist ordered it and not the current one at MDACC. We / the hospital wrote 3 protest letters and they denied the claim meaning we had to pay 5k for the test. After dealing with insurance and the testing company we negotiated a lower price but be prepared to do so.

If you can’t afford it you are sometimes able to get payment plans. And there are endowments for situations where money is tight or no insurance. None of it is fun that’s for sure. Insurance companies are not your friend.

The maintenance was pretty easy tbh. 5FU for 15 minutes (bollus) once a week.

Great point about tumor dna. It does change and the “usual” treatments become less effective. That’s when the experimental drugs are usually brought in to the treatment plan.

I am living a pretty normal life for 4 of 7 days. And honestly I’m grateful it’s only 3 days that I’m less productive or just kind of tired/ spaced out.

Another PSA- start your start up before health gets in the way. Health really is wealth and having time with energy and a clear mind is in shorter supply once health issues arise. But also balance work and life. Ok no more PSAs today :)

Small PSA:

I’ve got stage 4 colon cancer- I see these sorts of articles passed to me from family members.

While encouraging that these discoveries are being made it’s not necessarily something that you can take to the doctor and get started with. The following needs to happen:

1- it applies to your cancer/genetics/geneticdefects 2- it’s in a stage that you can be part of testing in human trials which means usually a specialist cancer hospital. (As a side note I recommend MD Anderson as a treatment hospital. They treat me very well and advocate well with insurance fights. And if you have cancer, live in the US you will fight with you insurer) 3- Is it even ready?? Usually no. It’s just the first paper written about it and others need to reproduce the results. Then about 10 other lucky miracles happen and human trials can start. 4- don’t be afraid to go back and forth with your doctor.

I’m currently doing maintenance chemotherapy but some areas flared up and they wanted to add another chemo drug. There were 2 options and we discussed and went with the option I tolerated better.

I do HIGHLY recommend that you establish a rapport with your doctor so that you can discuss treatment options freely. The way it works at MDACC and I’m sure very similar to other cancer hospitals. Is they do all the typing and dna sequences up front. It helps them diagnose the cancer and prognosis etc. and then that lives in your chart. Typical treatment is to use traditional known chemo treatments and if they are not effective they start adding the trials that match your dna/cancer type.

Very long winded way to say unless someone in your life asks you to send these sorts of things it’s kind of like getting a lottery ticket for 10 years from now.
