I have done many regimens.

My current pre-quarantine schedule was:

Morning 1x long black at a cafe near the office with a colleague

Rest of work day (plus minus 1 on each item) 2x long black from machine in the office, 1-2x long black with another colleague(s) at a cafe

Home (around 5-6pm) 1x long black

Current WFH schedule is: 2-5x long black roughly every 90 mins.

I enjoy the ritual of making it (plunger) and the warmth. I don't think I get a buzz anymore, but the odd time I do, I love it.

I don't get any noticable side effects, and have gone periods 1-4months without drinking it with no adverse effects.

Jack, I was in a similar place regarding your H&F statement not long ago.

I have halved my standard drink intake to maybe ~20 a weekend now and I feel SO much better on a daily basis now (probably due to sleeping better on the weekends).

What helped me curb the rampant binge drinking/partying was a renewed focus on software projects I had been meaning to work on, and training for local races (10ks, half marathons).

I am sure you will succeed as you have already identified what you can divert the time and energy to.

Man people could have probably agreed with what you wrote until "And be honest with yourself if you think the society we live in is anything but a necessary evil: you know you've felt the desire to murder, or torture, or rape, one time or another, just as any other human being, and that you've been hurt by society because it didn't let you exercise the freedom to do these things."

I agree with this "I mostly like our current set of rules, but let's not delude ourselves into seeing them as anything other than a local average optimization!".

Could this have promote an interesting incentive? -> notice safety breach/design defect -> don't speak up -> manufacture and distribute -> highlight defects to management -> whistleblow if they don't recall -> profit???

Or similar?

Just interested to see if anyone could elaborate or dispel this notion for me.

I guess it comes down to the character of the person?

It is possible that this situation would add frustration for on lookers who notice that a large group of people accepted (or did not SEEM to care) about the killing and torturing of people, but all of a sudden are taking the high ground against a 90 day ban on immigration.

For SOME people it would be hard to accept the opinion of such people?

I find myself falling into this sometime... Is it a cognitive bias?

edit: Its hard for me to think about these issues with large fear based reactions from both sides and the hysteria the media is putting out.

Yeah it is interesting, to me it seems like trump and the protesters are both coming from a place of fear and are trying to prevent something from happening, whether that is terrorist attack on US soil, or Trump turning the US into a fascist state.

Very interesting

I believe he is referring to the global hate train (media hype?) being run on Trump, magnitudes higher than any directed at the previous administrations responsible for those actions.

edit: Are military actions against these countries targeting Muslim communities worse than removing immigration privileges of Muslim communities? I dunno how to approach this question...

This. I use to be a champion of all nighters and cramming, until I got serious with my time management and maintained a healthy sleeping pattern.

1st-3rd year with all nighters -> average low 80s average. 4th year with maybe 1-2 all nighters -> low 90s average.

Of course other factors contribute and as she mentions in the article by your final year you know how to get high marks, but I see the error of my ways not following good sleeping patterns for the earlier years of my undergrad, bloody youthful exuberance!

Just offering the possibility that some of the workers actually agree with it? That their spine is perfectly intact?

I love Trello!

At one of my internships (Elec Engineering) with a mining company they used Trello to organize the majority of their work.

After that experience I started using Trello to organize all my daily stuff.

I had it to organise my book reading list, book purchase list, Quarterly and Yearly goals, Job application status, plan and execute on my thesis, assignments and side projects.

I can't believe how much value it has provided me for free!

It's good to see them get rewarded with a nice buyout.

Of course you can. It is your time to spend, not Bill Gates or any one elses. I don't read fiction although I enjoy reading history books even though some of them could be considered fiction by critics.

Thanks for sharing this. Something I have not thought about for a long time.

I found the description of the Instinctive Drowning Response insightful.
