AI loves to sell the words they are saying like a QVC salesperson with a knife set.

It doesn't just cut cans, it cuts tomatos too. You would think you have to sharpen it, but you don't.

Not just this, but that.

Sounds nothing like a normal succenct engineer.

In the last 5 years so much of the legislative pressure is coming down to remove anonymous Internet access to save the children or protect us from some harm.

In the end it is all being used to track and control us.

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." -Benjamin Franklin

Never truer words ever spoken. And yet we keep slipping down this slope again and again and again and it seems there is never a way to climb back out.

So basically they get paid peanuts and are overworked and so no one wants to do it.

Also seems like something AI could really cut into. You could have a master animator doing much of important thoughtful work and AI filling in the obvious as well as doing tweening (sound similar to programming)

Really, who needs a studio if you have the creative talent and ability to leverage AI for the grunt work. Or have a couple grunt work humans paid these rates to manage the tedious work of leveraging the AI to make it look seamless.

Jerry's Map 29 days ago

It would make an interesting map generation algorithm that could feed the card data and specified map tiles into an image gen AI system that would have to take the map tiles and try to follow the rules.

Everywhere (reddit, YouTube, Spotify) need to have a button to flag and then flag as ai. Reddit really has it buried in multiple levels of menus.

People are pretty darn good now at spotting ai.

An alternative is just use ai to look at the comments. Almost anything with AI has comments complaining about it.

All of these sites need to deal with it because it does drive away users.

Taxing Growth 7 months ago

Or maybe no one with interesting thoughts on anything would invest anything in a nation where if post anything online that might be slightly controversial you might go to jail and not even have the protection of a jury to balance out the overreach of government.

That and other things that are transforming it into a nanny state make it a hell no.

But yeah, it's nice you are lowering taxes and regulations on those who fall in line.

I have been learning lua to do a VR game in lovr, so I'll probably use that to get sharper with it.

I look forward to a year or two from now when there will be dozens of pebble clones just rolling out of factories for the price of a midrange Casio watch.

This along with valve's hardware announcement is quite a shot at all the entreched hardware manufacturers.

Considering the upcoming release of Frame, a VR headset based on Linux, I feel this couldn't be a more untrue statement.

The real truth is they moved out of the game development space and embraced the game platform space letting their old products wither and die.

I like grok for noncoding stuff. I find it hasn't been tuned for "Safety" (meaning it isn't tuned much for political correctness). It also seems good at making images and stories up well. I run some choose your own adventures stories with my kids through it. We tell it who each of their characters are and what the theme is for the night and grok gives them each a section of story and 4 choices. They also have the option of choosing something different then suggested. We have it so it cycles around the turns for everyone. Works pretty well, and if the kids wanna go dark (preteen boy) grok doesn't mind the violence.

Kinda reminds me of the video game from enders game.

I use "Code Injector" extension which is available for firefox and chrome. You can add custom javascript and css to any page. I usually inspect the page, find the classes or ids of the elements I want to get rid of, and do a display:none on them.

ADC = Analog to digital converter

Takes an analog signal from something like light or sound and convert it into a digital signal.

Acronyms introduced in an article should be spelled out at least once please.

"Federal funding typically covers 80% of bus purchases, with agencies responsible for the remainder."

Well, there is your answer. The one making the purchase isn't the one primarily paying for the purchase. This makes them less sensitive to pricing.

Kinda like how expensive healthcare is since it is paid for by insurance.

Or how you don't care how much you put on your plate or what you choose to eat at an all you can eat buffet.

The second you detach the consumer from the price of something, even through an intermediary such as health insurance, that is when they stop caring about how much something costs, and so the price jumps.

So, this cut out the least fit for work. One group heavily cut out would be those without work experience such as kids and other first entering the marketplace.

Fast food is a stepping stone job, and if employeers have to pay more for labor then they will be pickier about it.

Let's think about the reverse. If we cut minimum wage, the sector would be much more loose about hiring first time workers, convicts, or people just not fit for other jobs. The people could grow their skills and contribute more to society, a society where low end business constantly complain about how hard it is to find skilled workers.

High minimum wage contributes to more people on social safety nets living on low fixed incomes because the gulf between that and paid employment becomes too great and there is no low wage on ramp for them.

I cut out drinks with sugar in them, eating after dinner, and in general just eating healthy meals.

I lift weights about 3 days a week, and am fairly fit strengthwise.

All this lowered my fat levels down to a reasonable level, but still left me with about 23% body fat and a bit of a belly, and that remained consistent. Trying to diet didn't really cause any maintainable change.

What I found has helped is doing a 24 hour fast once a week. This really means just eating one dinner a little earlier (4:30pm) and then skipping breakfast and lunch and drinking water with electrolytes added.

With keeping the rest of the days calorie intake the same, I have shaved off consistently 1 pound a week and 1/2" from my waistline.

This has been going for 5 weeks now, and I have gone from 23% to 19.7% based on navy body fat formula.

What is great is I have no cravings or feelings that I am depriving myself except for the last 8 hrs of the weekly fast. The rest of the week, I eat well.

My plan is to bring myself down to 15% and then continuing to measure. If I get above 15% I fast that week, if I don't then I don't fast, so it basically becomes like a controllable throttle.
