I completely agree with this. If a product is meant to be free then give it away if you intend on charging some day you need top get people to pay from the start. Even if its a small amount.

Also if users will pay for a buggy prototype then it is clearly something they really want.

Thanks you very much for your feedback. Glad to hear your just about to hook up with a mentor. I may have given the wrong impression / not been very clear in my last post. It would be more geared towards a founder starting out in an industry but looking for particular help from an industry professional.

As far as the cost concept goes, as we loosely based the concept on the way Code mentor works we were looking at their pricing model. if you have a mentor in the sense you are doing they don not charge like that!

I take your point on board especially about the 'wantraprenurs'. I have bumped into people like that alot in my time.

Thanks for the comments. We are still looking into the legal ramifications in different countries and territories as they vary quite widely.

The selling of the DVD's and then offering access to the movie is based on the concept of movie rental. We would own a rental copy of the movies which you would have access to under the monthly payments.

This would however mean gaining deals with the major studios and so it may return back to the initial concept which means that it is more like iTunes match for movies.

The Prices are per month.

We are looking into a new video storage and streaming service and are looking for feedback. We are creating a cloud service to store all your movies and allow you to stream them from anywhere. There will be both free and paid tiers available depending on how much storage is required.

Its a bit like Plex however you don’t need a server at home and not have to rely on your home upload speed.

Our startup is called Streamly and is a live video platform for artists to share their live shows with fans round the world. We're in the early stages with a few users.

The app is aimed at artists broadcasting their own gigs and so hopefully shouldn't run into legal issues.

I agree with the comment below, specific skills will be different depending on what company. I came into programing and CS from concert Lighting 5 years ago. I started learning iOS however if I did it again I would learn something like Javascript/ html of Java first to get an understanding of the concepts. Check out Code Academy.

Also I would get an idea of what kind of role your after and learn the relevant language.

If you are interested in basic programming courses and have the time the Stanford courses (CS106A and CS106B) which are on iTunes U are good starting points.

I agree. in the early stage you have nothing to loose. You need to try everything that has the possibility to help your business! Also with every thing like Ycomb and others each time you put your product forward you are refining your pitch.
