How to Work Hard 5 years ago

haha - I've visited LA and also thought it was a shallow experience ;) Also, sounds like you haven't traveled much.

And yes, I do read a books first 10 pages and stop reading it. Sometimes i read the first couple pages of each chapter and stop reading it. I never claim i read the whole book, or understand every nook and cranny of the rhetoric, but that book will still shape my subconscious going forward.

I feel travel is the same. As you go around the world you learn that no one has the answers, each place is entirely based on your experience of that city and everyone has different philosophies in life. It provides a sense of empathy to ideas. Meeting people who worked at hostels or people who bought a sailing boat, some fishing poles and some rice and traveled vastly changed the way i look at the world. Life is really easy in actuality, we as a species seem to complicate it.

Travel has brought me a vast amount of serenity and peacefulness in my normal life, because normal life can never be as hard as traveling.

He's got an audience that he is writting too. He's talking about building great things, not how to live a full and happy life.

While working at Tesla, we definitely all built great things but that's all we did. I left, took a 70% paycut to start my own consulting business and work 4-5 hours a week while being a 'Digital Nomad'. I've never been happier and guess what, that nagging feeling of 'I'm not doing real work' or finding 'idleness distasteful' goes away when you don't feel like the whole team has a gun to your head.

Haven't heard of this before, but after some research they willingly didn't comply with any of the regulation. They allowed money to enter from US bank accounts. Binance has verification for the Fiat onramp for UK citizens. What i was discussing above was using already purchased crypto and trading it on binance on a VPN using leverage/Margin. A.) pretty unavoiable and B.) pretty untraceable.

Because this is the first time murdering a bunch of hamas members wasn't par for the course historically. Now it's Palestinians not 'Hamas' for the Palestinians, but one-in-the same for the US and Israeli governments. The other side of this is that they are a terrorist organization and need to be exterminated. Hamas says the same thing about the israeli's.

Also, war crimes as a subject is always brought on by the winners, just like the telling of history.

The world is a brutal place. Hamas has proved they are not a military match for israel and the war will continue until israel has complete control of the region. That's how one sided conflicts have happened historically.

Big crypto guy here; Tether is the bain of crypto. It is a centralized medium, that is accepted on centralized exchanges as fact with no audit on how much asset to coin ratio exists. Tether can print as many USDT as they want, buy up all the BTC on 100x leveraged long and no one would be the wiser. BTC's $700B market cap could be fairy dust and no one can know.

Crypto - > Salvidorian Dollar (Insert any country that wants to stick it to the US here) - > US dollar.

Monero keeps no record of headers of each transaction, so granted it might be a bit interesting on a tax form how you got 100m in $Y currency but the crypto to $Y fiat off-ramp would be hidden. Also, there's BTC ATM's, people willing to meet in person for a crypto/cash exchange and plenty of people using crypto to provide liquidity for other base pair swaps.

Also, i don't believe crypto is ever going to be used for the masses. But it has very interesting properties in finance like POS, sythetics, etc. These are REAL uses (read economic gains) So, i may not ever use it for paying for my kitchen remodel but i will HODL it and see my fortunes rise.

Lastly, Multi-level marketing is a 'Meme' in the purest definition. It's why it has popped up in so many manifestations. Whether it's a good Meme or not is a different question but is the reason i believe crypto is here to stay. it's a brain virus with the implicit understanding that if you own crypto, it behoves you economically to get more people into it. If you don't own it and hate it, you are only passively 'Hating it', in a more dismissive posture than anything. This one sided take is the reason crypto will continue to eat traditional finances lunch.

If you require deposits in fiat. If you already have crypto you don't need any amount of verification. You can utilize a BTC atm and create an account with only an email.

Hamas controls Palestine, which is deemed a terrorist organization by half the western world. Also, the US got a pretty good test of it's iron dome system it lent to israel. As long as Hamas runs Palestine, this conflict will never end until the complete utter destruction of Palestine is reached. Palestine needs to ditch their leaders.

Hamas is considered a terrorist organization by most of the western world. Hamas now runs the government in Palestine. Sounds like check mate by the israeli's to me. Palestine fucked up by letting a terrorist organization take over their country.

That list was developed for traditional finance. After messing around with DxDy protocol, i learned that literally all of those point are impossible. Also, how would you shut them down if they don't comply - It's a smart contract on eth. Even if you arrested everyone involved, it 'lives' outside of the reach of the US gov unless you ban all of eth.

Well, it's limited in scope as long as they don't intentionally go out of their way to circumvent the ban. UK citizens can still access binance's offering via a VPN, although it is not legal. You can't make the entire executive team non grata because your citizens are using a VPN to access a banned product.

The whole thing with this is it shows how powerless nationstates have become in their ability to regulate these kind of things. Binance has the possibility of being regulated to death, but what about the decentralized derivitives exchange DxDy or Sythetix? Here in the US it is illegal as a retail investor to have more than 3x trading leverage on securities. I can get access to 10x leverage on Sythetix as a retail trader which is technically illegal, but since it's not a security it's in this weird gray area. Even if the US finally starts understanding the possibilities inherent in crypto, they wouldn't be able to stop it even if they brought the whole weight of the US nationstate ontop of it. It's decentralized. You'd have to shut down Eth, Matics, DOT, Solana, Etc. To stop these kind of exchanges. Each of these orgs might have a few people to arrest or point too, but are largely 'Decentralized' and already on the blockchain.

this. Alot of people forget that progress for progress sake does indeed beget more progress.

Anecdotal, rather whimsical example; As soon as i transitioned my factorio to electricity, i found it much easier to just build a solar panel factory and batterys to power everything because i stop getting attacked by the mobs.

Also, one future problem that i find funny. Electric is better. If everyone had access to cheap, renewable energy it only makes sense to transition to that renewable energy. Also with the rise of carbon removal, I see global warming in the future becoming an entirely different problem to solve. It shows in our models that the PPM of carbon in the atmosphere has different effects throughout the world. So once we 'solve' the climate crisis, what entity says where the happy medium is? If it makes one region arid and another eden, who gets to be the deciding factor.

I see a future where carbon sequestration and maybe even addition is a matter of national security.

Mexico is the 9th largest economy by GDP and dwarfs all other countries in the regions. I think you proved is point, rather than negated it. Also, as a counter point, Mexico's proximity to the US had alot to do with the corruption and current regime in mexico.

Drugs across the american border is very lucrative giving power and money to alot of bad people in Mexico. Watch Narcos Mexico to get a wiff of the proximity to the US creating cartels.

Being trans is a personal philosophy. You may argue that the 'feeling' is innate, but must make major changes to your outside appearance/ biology / defy culture norms.

With that being said, defying cultural norms is a good thing but you can't force me to accept your reality. I have to option to have a difference in opinion than you. If i accidentally say sir, instead of mrs you can't cancel me because of it.

I don't claim to be a moral precept but what i do offer you A peace treaty. You can live your life in a way that is pleasing to you but you cannot force other people to accept your beliefs no matter how much scientific or cultural backing it may have. if the local womens book club doesn't want a dude who 'Claims' to be a women in their book club but can obviously still see he's a man, that's okay. It's not discrimination, it's difference in opinion and that is okay.

edit: Deleted a paragraph discussing sports. I think it mainly took away from my argument rather than helped it.

or the reverse, "Opps, 5 minutes of class left, where does the time go. Well everyone can pack up, while i finish up some 'emails'.

If you read elsewhere, they've got him on a couple cases. He technically wasn't allowed to put any shares of confinidy (Eventually paypal) in his roth ira since he was a founder. Also, he's not paying US taxs on his personal international income and using his dual newzealand citizenship to park it there.

What about making it easier for normal people to have access to the same IPOs that Thiel had access to?

I agreed with everything you said but the above. It gets weird when financially illiterate have access to 'Private companies'. Look at what happened to dogecoin.

Edit: Financially literate is a loose term, but a million in assets not including real estate does seem excessive.

you're right, wealth creates wealth. You lending money in the form of investment allows companies to borrow at better rates, expanding production and prosperity. & you're right, at a certain point when you have enough capital it doesn't make sense to be a laborer anymore as you can move markets enough with your cash to be an 'Investor' instead of a laborer.

Granted, obviously the current system is not perfect and does need a mechanism to make the rich pay their fair share in the economy. But saying all the rich just inherited their wealth and they did nothing to deserve it is plain incorrect.

3.6T a month? that would be greater than the whole of the US economy every year. Taxes are only a portion of that, so we would probably be spending 60-70% more than we are making from taxes on just UBI and no other social programs.

the ultra-rich built amazon, made very profitable trades, or inherited the labor of the ancestors. Also, you seems to be applying that there is a fixed pie wealth. The rich can create wealth where there wasn't before. Rob the rich and give to the poor is also a terrible strategy.

I don't have to be able to predict the future more than everyone else to vastly expand water reservoir's, increase education, build solar/wind/fission, public works... also, i've seen HN comments do extremely complex calculations about delta V but no one seems to do that math for UBI. what's 300m * $1000 a month? and 1,000 still doesn't cut it in most major cities.

'Freedom's' problem has always been that it's a very loose term. Freedom to do what? I can't even go into a grocery store after the federal government said i don't have to wear my mask if i'm fully vaccinated, without my mask. Virtue signalling by other Americans has become more powerful than the centralized federal governments ability to restrict my rights. I believe the US is scarier because it's more akin to mob rule. China is going to collapse when they get a very weak leader but the US is going to tear itself apart.
