We have no historical example of employment approaching double digits without societal problems ensuing? The higher the unemployment, the closer to robo-utopia, in a smooth, monotonic fashion, right?

If we have fusion in 30 years instead of 60 years, we have colonization of the solar system happening in our lifetimes. We'd have the economic rationale for removing all military engagement in the middle east. Have you ever programmed anything substantial using java outside the enterprise/agile IT environment? Any type of project on your own time? Have you every built anything in Ruby, Python, or Go? I'm asking to try to discern what you mean by "more viable".
