I know nothing and have no skills.

No, I wish someone would help me learn how to do all this stuff. I'm not sure where I could begin with even doing a "web startup"

I'd need a lot of programming knowledge and I was not blessed with a computer when I grew up like a lot of you.

I'd also like to learn this.

I am distributing to mechanics. I'm not sure if they'll enjoy Autocrat automotive supplies, despite the fact that I love that one. It's actually very smart.

Any recommendations?

General automotive parts, mostly in fluids, liquids, etc.

First, I'd like to say I highly appreciate your post, it was rather informative. This is what I love about HN!

1.I've always read, and have been interested in investing in the markets,(I read financial news daily) however, I know no one in my environment that would have knowledge of these topics or anyone that would provide me any insight. I know investing in some stocks won't make me much, I'm not delusional and I know how much prices generally fluctuate. I've tried finding classes in my college but there aren't I know. I also don't know anyone who deals with anything related to computers, software, websites, or anything technology related. I wish someone would let me in and show me what they do so I have an idea of how businesses operate on the internet.

2. Makes sense, deal in something you are interested in. but I am not planning to sell to retailers but people who will directly use my product(other businesses). The product that I have in mind is non-perishable, and in demand daily, the type of competition is closest to a monopolistic competition, probably somewhere in between perfect competition and monopolistic, so entry and exist is not very difficult. Profit should probably be low though, until I have "relationships" with the people I'm selling to. The most important thing to them is price however.

5. No I'm not doing any shipping. If I knew how to operate a site I would. It would open up a lot of possibilities.

I distribute it to them, they don't have time to go and buy from the whole salers because, A. Not enough space. B. they can't buy wholesale

But what are some internet ideas that I can use? I know hacker news is more focused on internet/programming related businesses.

I'm looking for more applied advice. Your advice seems to have more of that, does Buffets' letters include such things?

But these are autobiographies, I would like a book that gives me APPLIED knowledge on trading in index funds, options, stocks, bonds, forex..etc. I'll start with stocks/index funds because they're easier.

I hope this is not "above me" I don't know as much as the average hacker would probably know about markets. I'm 20 and don't have THAT much knowledge.

I'd like to start a middle man business nothing in the service industry like most types of businesses, basically buying something in bulk and distributing to places. I know what I'd chose but I'm sure there are other types of things that I can distribute..I don't know what though.Also need more resources and connections, and I have no access to that. What are some things that I can buy and sell in bulk?

This is exactly what I'm here, I know this place is a host to some highly intelligent and successful people. In fact, I'd be glad to help someone for free just to see what they do and how things work. However, I believe most people run software/website type of business, which is something I'm highly interested in. I have no one that is even remotely close to "tech savvy" to own something like this
