We are really lucky to work with some really amazing startups and websites that are changing the world and have been profitable since day one. Only in the second month of business but are over $1k MRR and we have had a lot of great feedback.

Have you ever driven without getting a full night's sleep? Wouldn't you consider that the same kind of offense since it reduces your reaction time and focus?

I'd like to see some data on the increased risks of driving while under the influence of marijuana before I lump it in with alcohol but saying that ANY reduction in focus or coordination means you are a threat to other drivers doesn't seem rational as long as you are still above a minimum threshold.

My cofounder and I wanted to use a monthly service to write articles for our existing online business with the ultimate goal of growing it over time but couldn't find one that felt like the right fit. Either they were too expensive, didn't have high quality sample articles, or they didn't create a content strategy and relied on you to come up with keywords and topics (ain't nobody got time for that!).

So we decided to launch our own and create the service we envisioned. At Colony we take control of the entire process for business owners. We do long term content strategy, keyword research, and deliver content entirely on autopilot so busy entrepreneurs can stop worrying about their blog and focus on more important business tasks. Meanwhile we are hard at work helping them drive traffic, boost SEO, and increase sales.

When we first launched https://www.Feastflow.com, a handcrafted lead gen service for freelance developers, we didn't offer a free trial or a money back guarantee and we got a lot of feedback that it was necessary. This might be a different perspective since we are a subscription service but having a "no questions asked" 30 day refund policy has definitely boosted our conversion and led to a much larger userbase. We found that our biggest sticking point was getting a user to give us a try and after experiencing the quality of our leads there is very little chance they ask for a refund.

Have you written any kind of blog or documentation about the build? I've been interested in a mini-laptop e-ink solution for a while. I think that most of the coding I do takes very little resources and is primarily just talking to the cloud or other servers. No reason to lug around a bunch of resources I don't need, right?

I would think that an adult in the first world with a car has a lot more autonomy than a child in Vietnam though.

Theres also an Outer Limits episode of a guy trapped on another planet who self replicates clones of himself. Although I think it does it more through "splitting" than an actual birth cycle. Very freaky episode with lots of "body-horror" as he begins to split.

Checkout Shodan where you can look into thousands of cams around the world from parking garages, shops, and even baby cams.

Except that not everyone has a license plate but everyone has a face. So its a much bigger intrusion.

I tried it out and it wasn't very usable. You can never have two options reconvene at the same node. And there's no built-in option for adding chance or variables to decisions. I decided to start building my own framework for these options.

Pimp: Story Of My Life written by Iceberg Slim. Learned about it from the latest Chappelle standup special. Very dark and fascinating tale of a pimp in the 1940's. A lot of cold, calculating capitalist ideas abound in it.

Also just started Astrobiology: A Short Introduction which was recommended by a fellow HNer.

I used Magic recently but I had never heard of the other three so thanks for that info! I asked them to cancel a gym membership and it took them 70 minutes. Ugh. After that happened I am hesitant to ask them to do anything else. What credit card are you using for concierge service and what kind of tasks do you use it for? I assume theres limits to the kinds of tasks that Magic could do but your concierge can't.

I think its interesting that they killed it because it was a "cost center" and never even tried to monetize it. I wonder how much it would actually cost if you measured the contractors to the minute and only charged for the tasks that humans needed to perform?

I think this dovetails well with the idea that salaries are increasingly becoming bifurcated with the top 10-20% in any given skilled profession being paid 2-5x what the bottom 80% are. It also ties in with whether or not you are living your life "above or below the algorithm" AKA are you ordering Ubers or driving Ubers? Are you creating content and building a "personal brand" or are you mindlessly scrolling through a skinner box feed?

Its an interesting trend that I'm seeing more and more. Its much more subtle than a Black Mirror episode but its worrying nonetheless.

What is it like living without heat? My heat went out in my apt for a week recently and although coming out from a hot shower was noticeably unpleasant the rest of my routine was unaffected since I'm normally wrapped up in cozy blankets on the couch anyways. I'd be very interested in the caloric impact of living without heat too.
