Funny, I just uninstalled it yesterday.

I only used it for the automatic blame behind the cursor, but I just learned that that is built-in to VS Code (something like “toggle blame decorator”). The built-in one is faster too.

What a surprise to see Chitwan mentioned here. It gives me a chance to share:

My father was from Nepal, and served as a park ranger in Chitwan National Park. I believe this was in the 80’s, before I was born. He always spoke very proudly about that time of his life. One fact he could never repeat too often was that he became an acquaintance of the late King of Nepal, who I believe visited the park on a yearly basis.

He also had a small scar on his arm that he claimed was from a tiger that hadn’t been fully tranquilized. I’ve always amusingly felt that he sometimes embellished his stories, but I’ll grant him this. Seeing the picture in the article of the men surrounding the tiger, is the first time I’ve had a chance to see what it might have looked like. Thanks!

But I’m curious (if you don’t mind) - as an accomplished programmer/entrepreneur, do you ever feel torn between wanting to live in your idyllic home of Sicily, vs. a hub like Silicon Valley? Do you feel limited in terms of what you can do, and does that matter to you?

I ask because Sicily seems close to your heart, while I think it’s also safe to assume that you would have lots of opportunity elsewhere. I imagine staying was a very conscious decision?

There are lots of wonderful but “small” corners of the world where people might face the same dilemma.

I understand your sentiment, but I think a lot of idealistic people will disagree - it's nice to think that a person should stand up for justice, no matter what.

In reality, I wonder how many people attempt to do this and end up regretting, because of what you mentioned.

I think so too. And I think the majority of data breaches that have lead to spam for me are from ages ago, from random services I signed up for as a teenager.

For a few years after that I did the "+" Gmail alias thing, to try to filter and catch companies. But I realised that's easy and obvious to strip, so it wasn't worth the effort (although I have caught PayPal leaking my email somehow).

I think this is a valid question. I see lots of effort at obfuscation but don't know if there's still a need.

I barely get spam and have a bigger issue with false positives in my spam folder. On the other hand I don't think there are many pages on the web that display my email address, so I'm curious about others' experience.

I just realised that this technique is absent from local/desktop search. Meaning that in most systems you’re expected to recall how something was phrased, if you want to have a chance of finding it.

I know “Google Desktop” used to be a product years ago. What’s the state of that space today?
