While the actual reason could be a case for discussions, the decision is correct in my humble opinion. The reason was, the loss of (I think) one destroyer, that crashed with a civil ship (a big freighter or tanker), because of misinterpretations of the steering control on the bridge of the destroyer.

In my humble opinion, when it comes to mission critical and distraction free control, nothing is better than physical control systems. In a good car, not only you have physical control systems, but also buttons and switches are of different shape or size or way of control (pressing, twisting, ...), so they can be identified simply by touching them.

What I got was a list that started with at least three points that are already obsolete, because only valid for Python 2, which is already declared obsolete.

Every language with some history has its humble start and is evolving. To carry the errors of the past is just not fair. You could of course drag along the first Java version and conclude that Java is bad -- but you would really invalidate your own opinion.

The German government did know about this stuff I think from 2002 or 2001 on, but still did not stop it until around 2012 in Germany and did not warn other countries, so it went on in those.

The main problems addressed in my opinion:

- Code duplication between server and client side

- Added complication threw data transmission between server and client (REST/json)

I think, both problems can be addressed by:

- having (a single) code that works both on server and client-side

- having transparent transport mechanisms for information between client and server.

I am sure, I could implement such a thing for Python/Django, using the already existing tools. But I am not sure, if such a thing would be appreciated by the community.

In theory.

In practice, many entities which work even in judiciary are influenced by party politics.

The current 2nd mayor of Munich is from the CSU -- so the winds have changed. The CSU is (since the last election) much more important than before and it seems that the SPD is massively weakened in Munich. This is also the reason for throwing out Linux It systems of Munich.

Yes, I guess so. Thing is, that legislation is often slow, so courts have to decide matters.

In Germany also the legislation oftentimes is not competent. Many laws are made, that are without value, after they where on trial. So, at least in Germany, courts are oftentimes a second law maker, because they have to check, how all these rules fit together (in the best of all worlds, the legislation should do that beforehand).

For me it would be interesting to see, if this also sparks remote work for software development contractors, since of test criteria B.

Else, when a software developer freelancer is working directly in a company with software developer employees, the criterion will be difficult to fulfill.

In Germany we have a similar situation, because we also have this discussion, who is an employee (for social security matters). One big criterion is remote work, but still many employers are holding back, since they fear to loose control over the contractor, when he can not look over his shoulder.

It is well important to see, where we came from. I think it was in the beginning of the 20th century, where many drugs where legal and addicted people where thought of like alcoholics: People with a serious problem or ill people, not criminals.

Than, came in politics and the "war on drugs" that really was a war against the consumers. First of Chinese people, than on colored people and than ...

If you really want to fight a "war on drugs", fight the reasons, that let people start taking those things .... but that might cost some money on social projects ... and will give no big corporations money for building prisons.

Yes, the Logitech MX500 was the one longest lasting mouse I had. I had one for so many years (>5years at least) and after that, the mice I bought, even expensive ones, lasted only for 1-6 months, not longer.

Ship steering and management was developed in hundreds of years, than comes the computer and changes everything in some decades ... no wonder, that some friction happens.

I am not anti computer, because I am a developer myself, but you must be very carefully in designing these things. I even see it in our modern cars and cell phones ...

Still, I think, CO2 reduction would be the less costly variant, that we could do today. It might not be enough, though. But at least we should make a start. But with the current political climate, we might stop, when it is already to late. Humanity is working on its own doom steadily.

Newest reports say, that the CO2 values rose most drastically in the latest years.

The reasons in the article might be valid for this particular company, but in my experience, the performance aspect is less valid in 90% of applications.

Either, the database is the limiting factor (and thus, languages like Python are fast enough, anyway) or the really performance demanding parts are located in <5% of the coding.

In my case, I enjoy the productivity that Python gives me and if I encounter such cases, that demand very high performance, I implement them in C or with Cython (or both).

The problem is, that we let banks become so big and important for our economies, that they can make the rules, if we want it or not.

The rules that Obama made, where hardly enough to prevent the biggest problems, of the system. But even those are abolished by the new president, since they might limit the possible profits, rich people can make.

And so we live on in the land of unlimited profits for the 0,1% and the unlimited losses for society.

I (as others) think, that the stability reason is bogus. The things that where mentioned, happened 100 years ago. To long for most Germans to remember.

In my experience, the cash workflow is faster in most situations than our CC workflow (maybe in other countries it is the opposite).

I want to give another reason, that is one of mine:

With money in my pocket, I have my expenses under better control. When the money is out before the month ends, I immediately see it.

With CC, it is not so.

And as we Germans are so economical, many of us like to have control over our expenses.

I also think, that there is a good evidence, that it actually works.

The example is a little to thin, to explain, what is great about it.

Currently, I don't see, why I should use it, except going at least ten years into the past.

SQLite is great, but I can use it with other useful tools instead of a naked web server.

I did never say, that I gave a full record of why the 2nd WW happened. I just gave one valid reason that made it possible.
