This kind of attitude in OSS is exactly why GIMP is a piece of garbage that no one uses.

Lamenting tent cities is "old man yelling at cloud" to you? I agree with his points. The Life of an average person is objectively much worse than it was 20-30 years ago. A person with great discipline can have a better life than ever, but it is hard not to feel empathy for the masses, so addicted to fake internet shit that they cannot even distinguish reality.
How does this make for a better "browsing experience"? It is just neurotic nitpicking. A good browsing experience means performance, security, minimal popups and minimal tracking. Firefox provides this OOTB now.
I thought this walrus thing looked esoteric and ridiculous. Two words which also describe Python. I think it's prime time for the scripting languages to be disrupted. Twould be nice to have one as well designed and consistent as Rust.
It is indeed unending, no end in sight. This should signal that there is something fundamentally wrong with Western thinking that leaves it incapable to even begin to grapple with the question.
Some "reputable" philosophers even deny that consciousness exists.
Anyway, here is the answer. 3 minutes and you can move on and think about more productive things.
People are forgetting something. We know Google is far left and wishes to impose their leftist agenda on the world at large [0].
All of their shenanigans including censorship of search, censorship on Youtube, and now this, would make this agenda and intent abundantly clear, even if they weren't exposed on tape admitting to it.
This particular action may be aimed towards Singapore, but I am 100% confident that this is a test run for a similar action in the United States.

I posted this link on HN before and was downvoted. Here it is again.
Mark Manson's "Models" is a great read if you're looking for a non-PUA book about dating and attracting women in a healthy way.
I agree with you. I try to be nice, but acting out my will , and God's will, with authenticity is a higher priority. I am increasingly aware, as I become more "myself", that people are offended and intimidated by my mere participation in the world. I respect moral boundaries, not social ones. Some people appreciate it more than others.
Would be interesting to try both! As for the self destructive aspect, I think that says more about ones subconscious desires. The dice can be corrupting... or perhaps revelatory.
It's a question you have to answer yourself. I struggle to see how awk would fit into my work flow, personally, and it's not feasible to learn every cool tool. And you'd have to use it somewhat frequently or you start forgetting the syntax, unless you make Anki cards
I'm reading The Stranger and finding it very relevant to our times. It's a depressingly boring read, but it gives an accurate insight into the way most young people are experiencing life. Worth a read if for nothing else than to identify which of your attitudes are too eerily similar to the main character's. Also highly recommend The Trial for similar reasons.
It's been a long time since HN was not out of touch.
Our lives no longer resemble our natural state so the premise of this question is nonsensical.
I always get downvoted for saying this, but many diseases with "unknown" causes are psychological in origin. I get the feeling this is one of them. Read The Mindbody Prescription - hope it gives you your life back like it did with me.
Well that was a fun read. I have some background working on an EHR and yes, HIPAA is taken very seriously. Hope the "divine intervention" you mentioned doesn't come from having shared this story.
Learning a good editor is an investment. You sacrifice some productivity and time now for a massive return on your investment later. Stating the obvious, I know, but so is this article.
I actually agree. The lack of seriousness in their dress betrays their lack of respect towards their work, and towards themselves.
Of course I get downvoted for discrediting fake news pushing an agenda. Ridiculous.
Well, what does this "prove"? That the climate isn't 100% static? That snow melts? You can cherry pick data to support whatever conclusion you want. Clickbait.
That's not what he said? You live up to your name though.
Cool! I did a 5-day fast recently and it was surprisingly easy. Didn't do any supplementation, although I already was used to intermittent fasting. The main benefits were mental and not physical. I can definitely see why virtually every religion encourages fasting - and I've noticed that generally, what is spiritually healthy winds up being physically healthy as well.
Yes! How refreshing to read this here.
Also, read Divided Mind by Dr Sarno.
The Emacs bindings are excellent. On a MacBook i have Option as Alt and Command (next to the space bar) mapped to Control. Very comfortable setup for Emacs with no weird external keyboard required nor any inefficient sideways pinky reaches.
No, buying expensive and totally impractical keyboards is not a solution, and I say that as an Ergodox owner. Really, if the root cause of your RSI is not addressed, you are going to have pain forever, whether they be back or knee problems or whatever, and you will just be perpetually playing catchup with more and more overpriced chairs and desks and weird devices.
It's not just possible, but highly likely. Graham Hancock has compiled an impressive amount of evidence for pre-Younger Dryas civilizations in books like Magicians of the Gods.
Yeah, I've noticed this to be true in many different ways. As Jesus said, the path to heaven is narrow.
Anyone who's taken it should have no problem understanding how easily this drug can create a disturbed state of mind. It has quite powerful psychoactive effects.
Marijuana is well known for causing psychosis, paranoia, panic, and other disturbed mental states. There's a reason they tell you not to eat the whole brownie - once the bad trip comes on, you're stuck with it and just have to ride it out. It can be quite harrowing. I also don't think marijuana is at all safe to take regularly, just looking at people who do so. It seems to incur actual neurological changes - you even stop having dreams. I understand that it can be fun, but all things must be taken with moderation, and people's increasing obsession with this psychoactive drug is worrisome.
Why do we keep repeating the line that he is "successful" and worth listening to? He has been at this for 25 years and nobody outside HN has ever heard of him. And no, being on the front page of HN does not make you successful.
Your opinions mean nothing. his success does.
The opinion of the consumer is everything, and... graphics are easily the most important element of a game. This is just obvious common sense, even if game devs don't want to admit it. And posting a screen shot of dwarf fortress doesn't disprove that. If DF had graphics and a normal UI, it would have been a minecraft level success, even with the insane amount of bugs it has.
