It uses LMDB by default, but CAN use SQLite as an alternative [1]. LMDB is already used by OpenLDAP [2][3] and seems pretty bullet-proof.

Just set up Garage to replace Minio. This would definitely be in the running otherwise for my use case of just exposing my ZFS array with an S3 api.

Holos.run for my homelab cluster. Cuelang has a learning curve but works well with argo unlike Timoni and let's you import existing charts, bare manifests, and use kustomize. Let's me abstract config with custom types and unification/(inheritance if that is easier to think about but a bit wrong)

From one domain to another (gmail.com to custom), a bit of faffing about to get all the accounts moves over.

Moving the mails was as simple as ctrl+a and dragging my mouse in thunderbird.

Between providers with a custom domain (zoho to mxroute) was easy. Just updating the DNS records and moving the emails.

If you are technically able (really just buying a domain and setting the DNS records the provider tells you) I would recommend getting a custom domain. It gives you the ability to move providers at will pretty easily, even if you did want to stick with a gmail for now.

As long as there is a way to disable it, or there is a unified view along with the individual email views. I quite like unified views considering I have three email accounts I need to view, and I don't see the downside of this view as long as when I reply, it automatically replies from the address it was sent to.

But for those that wanted an artificial singer, as far as I know there weren't really any more realistic sounding alternatives. It's nice now that instead of spending so much effort tuning vocaloids to sound realistic there is an alternative.

And knowing the limitations of vocaloid never stopped anyone from trying. Mitchie M is a great example.

I agree with a lot of people in this thread, vocaloid music can be really great and a lot of the great music takes advantage over the slightly robotic or unusual sounds it can produce. I have recently found Synth V, which uses AI trained on a singer and it can produce shockingly good results. It can also still used to produce similar sounds to vocaloids as well.

Never really got the whole controversy around that, and looks like Linus didn't really either. I would potentially chalk it up to cultural differences. At least where I live (and maybe in Canada?) we have quite strong consumer protection laws to the point that pretty much all warranties are less strong than the law is, so I don't really pay attention to them at all.

But we aren't talking about a single centralised community. This is a part of the fediverse (decentralised) and where anyone can create a server to host their own community.

If the lemmy team wants to have their slur filter for their "official" instance, they are free to. However, part of being decentralised is to give people the power to run their communities as they see fit and so they shouldn't be beholden to the infallible lemmy devs to maintain a slur list that the community can't manage themselves. Maybe they want to add or remove slurs or remove this filtering entirely, it isn't the place of the lemmy devs to decide that for them.

What I was thinking as well. "How dare they holiday in their own country where COVID is under control!". We have everything pretty under control in NZ and people are traveling domestically, but I would like to think we are pretty good neighbours...

Checkout Home Assistant. You can self host it, and as long as there is an integration available you should be able to do all that. Getting started with it is a bit of a pain compared to IFTTT but it's self hosted, open source, and free.

With more cases currently being low double digits active cases (almost all of which are in managed isolation) with single digit new active cases per day which is dropping.

New cases were expected, and planned for. There is active investigation into how the virus got into the community, and efforts to improve the resurgence plan. New cases coming from elimination can't really be compared to "we have community spread, but the cases went down so we are going to open up again".

AFAIK as more and more chats become encrypted (as it is the default for private rooms) then a rogue server operator wont to be able to snoop because they can't decrypt the messages unless you go through the verification process. And this aside, there are are few unobtrusive, but noticeable icons letting you know that you have an unverified session.

Smartphones are like many other technology products. Yes, you can get the cheapest one available but it will be total garbage or you could spend another $100 or so and get a pretty decent phone. Going beyond this point you get diminishing returns, is spending another $700-800 really worth it for a better camera, a faster CPU/GPU and a screen with a bit better colour when all you do is watch Youtube videos and browse facebook/instagram/whatever other social media?

It looks like they are leveraging Netlify for their website, Gumroad for payments, and Notion for wiki. This helps to make as much of what is not actually the product (marketing, documentation, financials) as easy and fast as possible. Most of that hour would be actually making the product (the web extension).

Given a talent for design, and some marketing, and some experience making extensions. This should be possible within a reasonable time frame.

That price seems about right. Many "CO2" sensors are actually measuring VOC levels then extrapolating what the CO2 level probably is rather than measuring it directly. You can see in the specs that this sensor uses NDIR (Non Dispersive Infrared ) to measure the CO2. NDIR fires an infrared laser at a specific frequency of light which falls into the absorption spectrum of the C-O bond of CO2, this scatters the light; This dispersion is measured and then turned into a PPM measurement of CO2. This sensor says it uses this NDIR technique and so is probably measuring the CO2 directly.
