If you can offer subscription model and can do bank to bank transfer with 0.5% fees, you will disrupt the whole subscription industry relying on visa/Master card monopoly. Not only this, banks also charge very high currency conversion fees which you can disrupt.

You of course need to build lot of things from scratch but with most of the banking now a days going online with new APIs, it is possible.

We are paying roughly 9% fees to stripe which includes currency conversion charges.

So if a customer pays us $100, we are getting $91 to our bank account which is absolutely ridiculous.

If anyone looking for next $10B-$100B business idea, work on making the transaction fees to 1% and you can take business from stripe and PayPal immediately.

I think bigger problem is poor moderation. Most of the mods are driven by some agenda and even propaganda.

Instead of focusing on quality, they focus on how their subreddit content can be aligned to their agenda.

I can use Ruby on Rails but I don't think an RoR app can handle thousands of comments per minute in an optimised way. I run a midsize app in Rails 5 and already having lot of scaling issues.

There are already some great android apps available so I guess no need for any official app. Check out Harmonic and Materialstic for example.

I'm thinking of using Ruby On Rails though worried about scaling problems. I am already having problems with our another website which get just hundred thousand unique visitors only.

There are plenty of contractors in India making $8-10k a month so there must be thousands in EU making $11k a month or more due to proximity and language advantage.

Check freelancing sites to get some idea. Plenty of guys getting long term work at $60-$80 an hour.

Probably because server usage alone will be $50k/month for just few million users. Customer oriented products (B2C, C2C) rarely makes money in initial days.

If I use the self hosted software now, how to keep it up to date? Also if they start charging, how will it be different than AirTable? I get the privacy aspect of self hosted solutions but there is a huge overhead cost of maintaining it and updating it. I am not even sure self hosted is safer than SaaS.
