Other than that, I'm not sure what the site offers me. Are the News / Tech / Gossip pages simply custom lists of people that are followed? Why do I want to use your lists instead of using my Twitter account, which I've already customized to include the people I'm most interested in following?

If your target audience is people don't twitter but might be into it, they're either going to end up moving on to actually using Twitter, or decide it's not for them. In either case, they won't keep coming back to your site.

Or if the robots weren't anthropomorphic -- just a box with wheels.

This happened to me the other day, and I was all confused because normally when a site is down I can Twitter about it but with Twitter down there was nowhere to go. It was only down for a moment though, so problem averted. Still, not sure HN is the right forum for up-to-the-minute chit-chat about what sites are broken...

I'm not sure that's the case. Although it's likely that many of the app reviews on AppCraver were paid for, there's no way of telling that a particular one was. For example, there are a couple of negative reviews on the site which I imagine weren't paid for.

Speaking of Apptism, I like that site a lot, except that I can't figure out what those little numbers in red circles mean. I'm sure they explain on their site somewhere, just haven't found it yet.

Normally I'm not a fan of self-posting but I wanted to follow up with the discussion that went on here last weekend on this subject (http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=472408) and let anyone who's interested know that AppCraver was the offending party.

Apple seems to be getting eviler by the day. It's the same kind of attitude they're taking with Palm and the Pre—threatening legal action to scare people away from doing things they really ought to have a right to do. I guess that's what happens when you're at the top of a market.

I noticed two friends who use their mouse to repeatedly select and deselect text in web browsers as they read pages online. This is absolutely crazymaking for onlookers, but really satisfying for them.

I do this all the time. I hadn't ever really thought about it.

Before the orange names, I refrained from commenting if I thought it was likely my comment would end up being downvoted to 0 points or less. Now, I'm likely to refrain from commenting if I think my comment won't get upmodded to 5 points or more (4 upvotes), because anything less would be net-negative on my average karma target of 3.5.

I see this as having a similar effect as initializing each post to -3 points (or maybe -2.5). I'm afraid this may lead to fewer genuinely thoughtful comments that might lack a populist appeal because the poster thought twice about posting at all.

Where are all the "This doesn't belong on HN" comments? The article nothing to do with tech or startups.
