I think what Valve gets right is how much value and respect it provides to both players and developers. Of course you can find some issues here and there. But in general, neither players nor developers are angry or frustrated with Valve/Steam.

It's no surprise that it's hard to compete with that.

On the other hand, I find it surprising that no one thinks there is a way to take operating system market share away from Microsoft with a better end user operating system. There is constantly new annoying stuff practically forced upon you and people are complaining left and right. Of course Microsoft has built several moats, but this level of disrespect against your own users has to backfire some day.

I guess you just need to configure `ListenAddress` in your `/etc/ssh/sshd_config` properly (see `man sshd_config`).

Conscious AI primarily would be a problem because we don't really have clear definitions and understandings of what we mean by that, and it leads to endless discussions.

The real problem is not whether an AI really "experiences" what happens to it or what it does, it's not even whether or not it gains "free will" (if that even exists).

The real problems start when AI gains motives/objectives and means to realize them. Or means to expand its means. I would find a completely stupid system that has the goal and ability to turn any matter into paperclips and more matter converters more scary than most visions of AI.

Even if most women prefer to work with people as opposed to working on things, it does not tell you anything about the specific candidate one is considering for a job.

Regarding the quote from the article: It was used to dismiss the idea of also going to high schools instead of just going to colleges to promote the companies opportunities. So while going into high schools to promote job opportunities in tech likely can not eliminate that general difference in interests, it can have an effect on those women who would be interested but are not convinced or aware (enough) yet.

There are a few ways to get into University later in life in Germany. I wasn't placed into "Gymnasium". But I got my "Mittlere Reife" (grade 10, age 16), did a three-year apprenticeship, worked a few years and got back into school ("Berufsoberschule"). I finally got into University in my late 20ies and have a Masters degree now.

Also the problem of cost of living while studying isn't exactly trivial. Accommodation, food and participating in general student life all are things that cost a lot of money.

If your parents can't support you, there is "BAFöG". Depending on your situation the state can support you with e.g. around 600 EUR per month for up to five years. You have to pay it back after your studies but only up to 10000 EUR (~ $11000). You can wait up to five years to start paying back and then pay around 390 EUR per quarter. Or you can get another discount if you pay it back all at once.

And there are other programs to help pay for your accommodation if you really can't afford it.

I'm not saying it's easy, but it's certainly possible if read up on the school system and support programs or if you ask the right school/student advisors.

The Code of Conduct also has a few questionable statements, such as not judging people based on their technical abilities, which is a super important thing when you're actually developing one of the world's largest operating systems and people like to contribute garbage.
