Chad has been one of the strongest voices in the open source community for the past few years. When we were building tools for OSS developers we valued his opinion highly.

This is the final nail for me, that something is rotten in the state of open source.

There's the "old guard" of open source, who seem to spend most of their time arguing about semantics, governance, and the nth kubernetes telemetry solution.

So where is the "new guard"? There's been a lot of interesting work in open source AI, but it seems to me like a championed effort cannot exist without a new paradigm around collaboration and monetization. More and more, we see the new guard question or outright deny new contributors due to AI slop PRs and issues continue to pile up.

There desperately needs to be a sexy revitalization of open source, starting with young developers. I thought it would be from the YC-esque startups of the world, who use open source as a way to garner legitimacy, good will, and a top-of-funnel upselling motion.

"Trad" open source is greying - and the new wave is more of a ripple. It has no shared identity, and no champion.

This is only useful when you are using Claude Cli fairly regularly on the same machine as OpenClaw, right? Because the tokens need to be refreshed manually every so often?

The writing style of this article is interested, on one hand, it's packed full of details and information like a well-researched, human-written article.

On the other, there are many ChatGPTisms, it's not this, it's that, groups of 3 terms, em-dashes, etc.

My thinking is that there was a thorough draft written by a human that then was passed through an LLM and heavily modified. Not that there's a problem with that.

I tried going through the latest diff, but there is so much boilerplate that I was nt able to find any real insights through skimming.

Has anyone found anything useful? Interesting needle-in-a-haystack problem for LLMs to try as well.

Third, despite having been provided with a clear definition of AI companions, some respondents may have conflated general AI use (such as ChatGPT for homework help) with AI companion interactions, potentially inflating usage statistics.

I think the viability of this entire study hinges on how clear they were that they are not talking about ChatGPT, even if they use ChatGPT for things like getting advice.

Chess-related software is certainly booming as well. My favorite recent addition is OpeningTree[0], a platform that lets you input anyone's Lichess or chess.com username and load a tree of their opening moves. I play in the Lichess4545[1] league and its an incredible tool.

My contributions to the chess community are much smaller. I wrote u/relevant_post_bot[2] for /r/anarchychess and stylochess[3] in an attempt to solve the identity of mysterious super grandmasters[4].

Well said, I'm a biomedical engineer and even the cutting edge of research in this field is crushingly far from finding the capital T Truth of biology.

My favorite example of this is from the Battle of Mohi[0] during the Mongol conquest of Europe. The legendary Mongol general Subutai left a "hole" in the their encirclement of the Hungarian army. He did not want the crossbowmen and cavalry of the Hungarians making a last stand on "death ground" as Sun Tzu calls it. Thus, they fled through this "hole" only to be cut down individually by Mongols on horseback.

Some of these comments are... weird. Multiple accounts with broken English defending China and bringing up African Americans (somewhat irrelevantly) in every argument. I'll leave the speculation as an exercise for the reader.

I disagree. In an ideal Dapp, pricing is determined by the open market or with a strong oracle - nothing novel here. If the contract was audited and deemed secure, then a pricing error shouldn't be possible. Payouts would be automatic and instant, as determined by the contract or set of contracts. Therefore, even if there was an error, the platform itself couldn't refuse to pay out a bet because they don't have a say in it. Can't be evil > Don't be evil.

Edit: to add, if users saw unresolved bugs in the platform, the contract could be forked and improved or users could just leave. If code is law, and that code is deployed publicly for everyone to see, then nothing is left to the discretion of "owners" because the "owners" don't have discretion to begin with.
