It's not about the raw number of people, it's more about how old and aging they are. Age distribution is the key factor. 1 billion 60 year olds is not the same as 1 billion 20 year olds.

Wow, I wonder how this will affect phosphate and fertilizer prices.
They are occupying the space left behind by human activity. Chemicals will only create more resistant strains just like it did with Amaranth. The reason these plants are successful is the horrendous landscaping traditions especially in new developments. The use of chemicals only reinforces these plants. Basically what's happening is these strains are put under so much pressure in the urban environment that they becomes "super-weeds" and then invade the rest of the landscape. It might be too late to do anything about it now.

My understanding is that incinerators don't just release the output. The exhaust is pumped back into the system and dealt with somehow. The extent to which the release is "dealt with" is the tricky part.

Basically, math need a major refactoring and code rewrite. I've been saying this for years. It's getting to a ridiculous point in some areas. Also imagine naming functions in code after people ... That's what mathematicians do with some major often used concepts, making them hard to grasp and remember (i.e. Why is it called "Laplace distribution" and not "mirrored-exponential"?)

There's a few "Plants and trees won't do" comments here, which really misses the entire point of regenerative methods. Earth is an entire complex living system. Thinking of it as a simple chemical matter of CO2 is a very reductionist take. The point is to sequester carbon but ALSO trigger other cooling dynamics and reducing certain industrial practices that themselves release CO2. Too many engineers need to study complex systems and holistic approaches. The amount of patronizing makes me think of the fatal engineering flaw of "It can't be this simple".
It's not going to be "anyway". Once you add incentive for wood you will also create incentive for building. Complex systems 101.
