Yup we're still working on the design, it's still early stages, it was the functionality we focused on in the 24 hours ;-) if there is anything in the functionality you think could be improved or any particular design elements you feel we could enhance, let us know - also thanks for the share for the thread! that's a great article mcdowall

Personally, I don't think that twitter is the best measure. Given the amount of noise and the whole follow back culture, you might just end up getting the 1/10 person who ends up following everyone.

I think if you are going to use twitter, have something interesting to say about the area where your startup is based in - that will attract initial early adopters and those who are passionate about the space.

Also, I do feel if you have some JS, CSS knowledge, go out and actually build a landing page - see if people actually sign up to what the product will be (or could be) - that's a much better way to gain traction and email addresses for those who could end up being your early adopters.

From being at SXSW I can see why this didn't live up to its reputation. SXSW has become extremely noisy and only now if you've got celebrity status and a big launch and it actually provides some use to the majority of people at the conference itself, will something be somewhat successful. When Twitter and Foursquare launched, it was because more so those apps actually provided some real value to a lot of those at the conference in Austin given it allows you to comment on events and check in at specific locations. When they are so many people around the conference you can bump into normally without the need for an app and given how noisy SXSW is, I can see why it would not have done as well as I'd rather save my battery using the SXSW and twitter app and meet people by chance in that environment.
