There's strong evidence that all life on this planet can trace back to a single strand of DNA, which evolved exactly once in our billions of years.

For example, if I understand this correctly, a random jumble of DNA as you describe would have a 50/50 chance of twisting to the right or twisting to the left. And yet all life on earth uses DNA that is "right handed" twisting to the right.

This is interesting:

We will reduce the data you give an app when you sign in -- to only your name, profile photo, and email address.

What about localization info such as language?

Are all apps switching to 100% US English? Are they supposed to guess a users language from their name and email?

My guess (and this is just a guess) is that the users preferred language is already considered “public” on the graph so perhaps apps don’t need special permission to access it.

If that’s the case, this statement is doing a bit of misdirection by calling out name and profile photo, instead of saying “we will only give your email address plus other information we deem public”

Correct. If we as a society could somehow "get used to terrorism" it would be no more of a threat than falling vending machines, as pointed out above.

Plus, we'd save billions of dollars and countless hours of productivity.

Not that I'm expecting this to happen, but one can imagine...

This browser extension changed my life for the better:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/kill-fb-feed/

I like Facebook, it serves a lot of good roles in my life (including my job) so I can't just quit and/or block Facebook. But I was spending pointless hours a day reading my news feed, disgusted with my own lack of productivity.

This extension kills the home page feed, but nothing else.

I still have access to messages, profiles, events, invites, etc. I can still find everything I search for if I seek it out, only difference is it's not drip-fed into my eyeballs with an endless scroll.

My productivity (and happiness) immediately took a step up.

For example, this tool says: https://github.com/x0rz/EQGRP/blob/master/Linux/doc/user.too...

# ELATEDMONKEY is a local privelege escalation exploit against systems running the cPanel Remote Management Web Interface, at least through version 24, and probably future versions too (althogh that should be checked before throwing).

It has been tested explicitly on cPanel 11.23.3 and 11.24.4 running CentOS 5.2 Linux

Those versions are from 2008/2009

Auction Instructions - -------------------- We auction best files to highest bidder. Auction files better than stuxnet. Auction files better than free files we already give you. The party which sends most bitcoins to address: 19BY2XCgbDe6WtTVbTyzM9eR3LYr6VitWK before bidding stops is winner, we tell how to decrypt. Very important!!! When you send bitcoin you add additional output to transaction. You add OP_Return output. In Op_Return output you put your (bidder) contact info. We suggest use bitmessage or I2P-bote email address. No other information will be disclosed by us publicly. Do not believe unsigned messages. We will contact winner with decryption instructions. Winner can do with files as they please, we not release files to public.

FAQ - --- Q: Why I want auction files, why send bitcoin? A: If you like free files (proof), you send bitcoin. If you want know your networks hacked, you send bitcoin. If you want hack networks as like equation group, you send bitcoin. If you want reverse, write many words, make big name for self, get many customers, you send bitcoin. If want to know what we take, you send bitcoin.

Q: What is in auction files? A: Is secret. Equation Group not know what lost. We want Equation Group to bid so we keep secret. You bid against Equation Group, win and find out or bid pump price up, piss them off, everyone wins.

Q: What if bid and no win, get bitcoins back? A: Sorry lose bidding war lose bitcoin and files. Lose Lose. Bid to win! But maybe not total loss. Instead to losers we give consolation prize. If our auction raises 1,000,000 (million) btc total, then we dump more Equation Group files, same quality, unencrypted, for free, to everyone.

Q: When does auction end? A: Unknown. When we feel is time to end. Keep bidding until we announce winner.

Q: Why I trust you? A: No trust, risk. You like reward, you take risk, maybe win, maybe not, no guarantees. There could be hack, steal, jail, dead, or war tomorrow. You worry more, protect self from other bidders, trolls, and haters.

Closing Remarks - --------------------------------------------------

!!! Attention Wealthy Elites !!!

We have final message for "Wealthy Elites". We know what is wealthy but what is Elites? Elites is making laws protect self and friends, lie and fuck other peoples. Elites is breaking laws, regular peoples go to jail, life ruin, family ruin, but not Elites. Elites is breaking laws, many peoples know Elites guilty, Elites call top friends at law enforcement and government agencies, offer bribes, make promise future handjobs, (but no blowjobs). Elites top friends announce, no law broken, no crime commit. Reporters (not call journalist) make living say write only nice things about Elites, convince dumb cattle, is just politics, everything is awesome, check out our ads and our prostitutes. Then Elites runs for president. Why run for president when already control country like dictatorship? What this have do with fun Cyber Weapons Auction? We want make sure Wealthy Elite recognizes the danger cyber weapons, this message, our auction, poses to their wealth and control. Let us spell out for Elites. Your wealth and control depends on electronic data. You see what "Equation Group" can do. You see what cryptolockers and stuxnet can do. You see free files we give for free. You see attacks on banks and SWIFT in news. Maybe there is Equation Group version of cryptolocker+stuxnet for banks and financial systems? If Equation Group lose control of cyber weapons, who else lose or find cyber weapons? If electronic data go bye bye where leave Wealthy Elites? Maybe with dumb cattle? "Do you feel in charge?" Wealthy Elites, you send bitcoins, you bid in auction, maybe big advantage for you?

Is there a quick way to avoid having all those cores take up the top 32 lines of the screen?

Checking my 40 core machine in a typical terminal window, I can't see any of the processes, just 40 lines of CPU! Thanks.

Are these in the Detroit area? That's great for the region. Michigan has great schools and a lot of talent, but the lack of top software jobs causes a brain drain.

Who knows, in a few years small groups of these engineers may be founding their own startups.

Thanks for making that! Looks sweet, is it ready for use in the wild? (You mention making it user friendly with a link...)

Are there other encryption-type solutions for this problem? Something usable by people locked up in jail who may not be computer savvy.

I know a public defender who might be interested.

In case anyone needs it, here is the command line to patch fail2ban:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install --only-upgrade fail2ban

Although it's considered best practice to upgrade all packages, like this:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

To answer your question, this is almost impossible to find.

I tried for 12 years in the Bay Area with no real success. I'm a highly skilled software engineer with a solid qualifications. I never had any problem getting full time job offers with huge salaries, even in bust times; but god forbid I ask for Fridays off, I'd be shown to the door real quick.

Finally I started my own company.

Most people work 16-20 hours/week and no one works more than 30 (other than myself sometimes for a crunch.)

Everyone is happy, and I get great value for my money. As a bootstrapped start up, that value per dollar is vital.
