Assuming attention is binary as parent suggested, than having someone in a meeting where they listen in, but in parallel working on something else seems to me to be a problem. Maybe the meeting should be split in that case so only people who are actually required and therefore spend their full attention on, are present in the split parts. Not saying bossware is the best (or even an acceptable) solution to that problem, but it would surely be benefitial for an organization to reduce such inefficiencies.

Which is exactly what I suggested - avoid strife over mismatched expectations with a one liner. I would take your first paragraph to actually strengthen my assumption that Kinder treatment of PRs is the norm and that's why the many projects you mention add that line.

Well, from my perspective it seems common practice in most open source projects which are hosted on GH that maintainers at least consider PRs and typically only reject if the PR is flawed, incomplete or somehow adds feature creep.

Of course any maintainer is free to handle it differently, but if going against usual expectations, it would be benefitial for all involved to note reluctance to PRs prominently to the Readme.

For me when rarely riding a scooter (in Berlin) it is always frustrating that I am (at capped 20km/h) a bit slower than the flow of numerous bicicles. This also understandably increases frustration for the cyclists (I feel the same when usually taking a bike to work). This alone rules out taking a scooter over a bike whenever possible.

GP means more openings in management track than in similar level IC-expert track. Which makes sense seeing

1) in those 8 person teams you mention there may not always be a place for an expert IC

2) companies often reserve the IC-expert budget slots for internal IC promotions while relying on management slots on external recruitment to a higher degree

The term is "product validation" which isn't core marketing of course. But for that you need initial users and to get these you need limited marketing efforts early on. No rocket science :-)

I would personally love to add a response along the lines of "professional yes, but they should have..." regarding their stance, but no - you are right.

This is an exceptionally professional response and the discussion regarding PC, wokeness etc belongs elsewhere.

From the perspective of a >200 people company, gmail/gapps starts to become a discount email provider. Like it or not, as the Org growths considerations about legal liability of providers, SLA enforcement etc become a topic

Facebook having a timeline which is not stable/deterministic is a peculiarity of their implementation. OP refers to a simple timeline which would not show such undeterministic behavior

This looks impressive, kudos. Definately a novelty from HN audience standpoint.

By why would I as typical customer care how an agency (who you are substituting) converts sketch to site? I want quality, good price, fast delivery. Everything else can be a black box.

Don't get me wrong, not criticizing your idea or business model, just the marketing angle.

Didn't notice (now too late to edit) that parent and grandparent are the same - Duncan. So guess I fell for the ruse here. Anyway: above statement still stands no matter who objected to the original post. Still feel stupidly manipulated ;-)

OP is certainly not politically correct, but I don't see how that is a reason to down vote. It's not like they suggested mistreating children or so. Somehow would hope HN to be open to different views.

Can only answer for Germany, but yes, here the employer is required to provide for the initial meeting where the first employee committee (Betriebsrat) is elected. This includes rooms, paper etc but in particular informing all employees about the initiative as well as freeing people up during their paid work time so they can attend.

Dev side of the business myself, so just perception of the mechanics why self-service may be unattractive for the sales team:

From a sales perspective you would typically optimize for fewer false-negatives (people not buying even though the solution would be valuable for them) at the expense of more false-positives (you wasting time trying to convince people who have no value and therefore don't buy in the end). Self-demos lead to people self-selecting themselves out without sales being able to influence this (explain the lead maybe just misunderstood a feature in the self-demo etc).

Besides typical sales bonus structures reward converted leads which the sales person did convert, not avoided churn after self-signup which customer success gets credit for.

Same for me. See the point of the sibling comments though. So maybe I prefer an open office because I don't procrastinate (which would leave me with a feeling of unproductive guilt in the evening) to a private office, even though the latter might be actually more productive.

I understood the value of LinkExchange in the geocities Era - everyone was online because you "had to be" but there were no clear monetization strategies. With page impressions as sole KPI it didn't hurt to get a few more by joining some ad-ring-system.

Nowadays the line between publishers (many impressions, put stuff online and monetize via ads) and advertisers (fewer impressions, everyone monetizing in some other way, no matter if they actually use online ads or not) seems quite clear cut. So not really seeing who would use this tbh.

Good luck with your project though!

Maybe not possible for you, but where I live (Germany) the obvious solution would be to get 2 cheap used bikes for both start/end legs and chain them at the station.

The dangerous place is not the straight road, but crossings where cars turn right and hit cyclists going straight. So the way these spots are handled is way more important than painted line vs fence.
