In your example, (it seem to me that) is not that the problems is expanding (getting worst) but it is reaching (helping) more people.

"KOA stands for Kampgrounds of America, the world's largest system of privately owned and franchised campgrounds"
The US had the power to start the war. The US doesn't have the power to stop the war.
Well thought out strategic tariffs are ok. But this is knee jerk tariffs. Even in the best case scenario introduces a lot of uncertainty which freezes investing and decision making in general.
Just wondering if we are working a lot but perhaps we do not get the same feeling of accomplishment that we used to get since we feel that we are not really doing the work?
We may solve it for Humans. Earth will continue living without us.
While interesting. Is it a 'Major discovery' ?
Can you explain ? I understand each word but not the meaning of the whole sentence.
I am not sure if your initial paragraph was meant to be sarcastic. I do believe we should give additional help based on economic need rather than race or skin color.
Free universal preschool seems to have big impact. Also free universal school lunches are too. There may be other examples too.
I am under the impression that a big part of the current AI progress is the result of the availability of chips that were created for gaming.
But it is not only about the money. People just have their own lives, interests, and passions. For me, the lack of autonomy when doing my job kills a lot of the motivation.
I always thought that an Engineering degree with an MBA is a very good combination. You get very practical, useful things when you are younger. Once you have acquired enough life and work experience then you can appreciate the subtleties of cases that you study in an MBA.
Not disagreeing with you. Successfull people tend to have IQs between 120 and 135. (citation needed) It makes sense because there are a LOT more people in that range than in the 135+ range. 120-135 is often sufficient. I suspect that something similar on the rich scale. People like Gates, Bezos and Musk were not fabulous wealthy, but they had enough to be able to bet big and take big chances.
Girls are doing great, which is great! However boys are not doing so well. To add insult to injury, they are still blamed for what we (the rest of men through history) did.
I don't feel the parent post is about bad envy. There is also good envy, when you feel happy for someone's blessings. But you also would like to have it for yourself.
Oh, I think I know who is this. The CEO is fantastic (he is very technology oriented) but he is super convinced this is the right way. It has all kinds of perverse consequences. The constant loss of experience shows everywhere. Cliques are formed as means of protection. People focus on being seen, rather than in doing a great job, etc.
My washing machine also has this AI icon. Not a big deal but it makes me roll my eyes everytime I see it.
Even if the project didn't become popular. Have you been able to use it as part of your portfolio to get a job, or move into academia ? Perhaps what you learned in the project was useful in some other way ?
Amazing. What happened with your professional career ? Did this exercise help you out professionally ?
One of my worries about AI is that doing these deep dives are a lot harder to justify.
It has crossed my mind that being a scientist is for people who are already financial independent. Same as being an artist. For the rest of us, we need focus on careers where we can make a living. Of course, we can still do science and art as hobbies, but it is rather risky pretending to make a living from it.
Indeed. You want to have small buffers, because big buffers increase WIP (Work In Progress), product gets damaged, problems are hidden, etc. That follows the JIT (Just In Time) ideas. But, you still want to have buffers to decouple both operations. You also want to constraint the size of the buffer, where the producer stops when the buffer is full. In the case of queues (As in AWS SQS), I am not aware of any limits where you can also stop the producer when the queue reaches a size. I believe it is desirable just from my experience on Manufacturing systems back in the day.
Back in the 90s. I was part of a team working R&D project on flexible manufacturing. One of the central concepts was the use of buffers (also called decouplers) between manufacturing stations. These buffers were the space needed to place not finished products while they waited for the next station. Typically a conveyor belt. The main service is that both stations could run at slightly different rhythm, and they would not be causing problems on the other one. Either starving it or overwhelming it. Queues are pretty similar. You can have a consumer and a producer working and the queue in between prevents them from being blocked by each other. Thus I now see the main role of queues as decouplers.
The people living in uk now are not the same people who were involved in past invasions.
Exactly. With the standard rules, it is easy to buy the stock to opt in. If they change the rules, it is very hard to opt out if your portfolio follows the S&P500, like many passive investors do.
pardon my ignorance. But, all that salt was there already. right? Is it that we have less water there now ?
Just expanding on this. In hispanic countries we have two last names. One you get from your father side and the other one you get from the mother side. When the first last name is very common like Lopez, Garcia, Perez, etc. it is common practice to keep the second last name when you are talking about them. Otherwise it sounds too plain. Like Gabriel Garcia could be anyone, but Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a renown author.
My experience dating someone younger. She was still in college and I was already working full time. I noticed that if we stayed late night on the weekend, she would make the sleep back during the week, may be in short spans, here and there. But once you work full time, you cannot. At work, you have be up and ready all day. So you carry a sleep debt for a long time. Once, she started working full time, she was as tired as me.
The least prolific very successfull author in the world was perhaps Juan Rulfo. He only wrote 300 pages in his whole life and lived to be 68. It is really hard to explain how was he able to produce such master works.
I agree. The rich kids will always have an advantage. But let me ask why are we playing this like a zero sum game? Do we not have enough education for anyone who is willing to put up the work?
I think providing access to remedial resources, free meals at school, do more for disadvantage students than lowering the requirements. Also make sure there are enough slots for anyone who is able to pass the requirements.
