Sadly it doesn’t seem to be able to fix the several SD cards killed by the raspberry pis I have.

All the examples I see is there’s a network unit file, a cron unit file, etc all for one application. It would be nice to colocate.

Then there is composition of multiple applications too.

With docker compose I have a single file for running all my services.

With systemd it has to be N number of files for each service too.

The thing I don’t like about systemd is the inexplicable need to have multiple files for a service. Why can’t they all be declared in a single unit file?

I see you haven’t stumbled across the Minecraft community much, because this weirdness is just every day for them.

Take for example, the infamous 2B2T Minecraft server.

Exploits and game breaking mechanics by virtually impossible to discover bugs, and the no rule against hacking and cheating, have led to things people didn’t think were even possible in Minecraft over the servers ~15 year history.

It was rejected because it needed JS to even work.

To be honest I haven’t really thought about it and it’s definitely something it can’t do, you’d probably need to call their APIs or something.

I am fortunate in that the only things I want to reuse is package manager caches.

Honestly not really… sure it might not be as fast but the ability to know I can debug it and build it exactly the same way locally is worth the performance hit. It probably helps I don’t write C++, so builds are not a multi day event!

It’s why I’ve started making CI simply a script that I can run locally or on GitHub Actions etc.

Then the CI just becomes a bit of yaml that runs my script.

Ever since Windows gained Terminal and OpenSSH, my usage of Putty has almost entirely ceased except for serial for embedded systems work.

Then I realised Putty ships with a CLI version which I now use in Terminal for accessing serial.

Fascinating how each “standard” or intrinsic that gets added actually totally fails to give you the real numbers promised.

Oh come on, why? What the fuck. Extremely frustrating as this is something I’ve been using for more or less ten years. The fact it can be used on whiteboards and paper is immeasurably useful.

These stupid decisions to force AI into everything while not replacing any of the existing functionality should be considered crimes. The point of Lens is that it takes almost perfect scans in place of a scanner, and correctly scans whiteboards too.

I’m guessing the people that decided to kill it off believe having “AI” summarising text in a document is somehow equivalent.

So I tapped the link on my iPhone and was taken to the App Store.

The download button is available. Great! Finally I can block ads in mobile too.

It installs, opening it is a simple message saying I need to enable it in Safari settings. Strange, but ok.

I go to Settings -> Safari -> Extensions -> uBlock Origin Lite.

“uBO Lite” is not available for this version of Safari.

This feels like a series of failures, why is it available for download on iPhone if it doesn’t work at all? Is iOS Safari really that different to Mac Safari?

There’s something oddly fitting about the company that forced the Jira monopoly on so many companies also being cruel and cold with prerecorded firing videos.

I don’t think there’s ever been any good tooling for the entire collection of ASP.NET DSLs. Be that MVC, Razor, or Blazor. Genuinely the same problems I had in VS2010 still happen in VS2022.

There’s been some changes and improvements, but I really have to ask what the editor tooling team within that team are doing.

I know there are some very difficult problems involved in parsing and formatting and highlighting bastardised mixtures of HTML, C#, and JavaScript all in the same file but if anything I think that perhaps suggests it was a bad idea to begin with.

Consider the tooling for desktop and mobile apps with XAML (WPF, Avalonia) or even WinForms - they all have code behind support.

Meaning there is no need (or ability) to mix all three in the same file.

Thank goodness for that - a UK citizen.

Using CSS and not using the native implementation of the operating system is going to lead to very brittle and hard to fix problems.
