I’ll never forget seeing Second Life for the first time at a conference, in Flagstaff I think. You guys had a single folding table booth (as we all did) and computer running Second Life. Our team thought it was pretty cool and we talked about it quite a bit back at the office later. It was either 2002 or 2003.
We were with Evolution Robotics and were showing off the ER1, a new hobbyist robot.
Good memories for sure!

Thanks for this… great trip down memory lane. I also worked at Babbages during the 1993 academic year. I probably spent my whole paycheck there! I definitely considered myself lucky, I didn’t find a wife but it sure beat McDonald’s!
I like your thought process around the ‘empty’ case. While the opposite of a filter is no filter, to your point, that is probably not really the desire when it comes to data retrieval. We might have to revisit that ourselves.

Took my PS5 Pro on a work trip. Was livid to find out the horrific 'browser' on the PS5 wasn't able to handle the captive portal login page. $700 gaming rig and it can't load a simple HTML page so I can enter my name and room number?! Ridiculous.
Thought about it for a few minutes and realized that the portal was likely just doing mac filtering. So I adjusted my MacBook Pro's MAC address to be the same as the PS5, went through the portal login and then powered down the MBP. Booted up the PS5 and I was online.
Damn it feels good to be a gangster.
Honestly, he doesn’t need to be the best to make it enjoyable. He seems like a generally chill guy and he goes back and breaks down his games. Fascinating to hear what he was thinking and why he did what he did.
If you still want to experience the joys of RTS... but struggle to play after so many years away, I highly recommend catching a few streams from Grubby. He plays WC3 and a few other games and is quite entertaining to watch. He is also crazy good... His typical APM during a game hovers between 200 and 250. He is an absolute beast at leveraging his items and maximizing his heroes' hp.
I know they have to peak interest, but man, so many spoilers in the 2 trailers. They look amazing, clearing a huge budget and I hope a solid adaptation… sad for people that don’t know the story to miss out on the reveals.

In the mean time, I am curious where the time was spent debugging and building Atlas deployments? It certainly isn't the cheapest option, but it has been quite a '1 click' solution for us.
Melatonin does have the potential for augmentation, but it isn’t a certainty or even the majority of people.
Oddly, the result isn’t a loss of initial efficacy but instead a ‘wide awake at 3am’ situation.
Even if it is later proved that Amyloids are NOT at fault, doesn’t the ability to remove them effectively improve our ability to make that very determination? My impression of this is at the very worst it isolates that variable and pushes the overall understanding forward significantly.
Yes! That latency was very quick to induce nausea for me while trying to play Battlefront with my son. I thought maybe it was just the frame rate… but latency makes more sense.

The part that I am so tired of is the ‘we are the best at this and this is amazing’ pitch that comes with every release. Never mind that this release’s design ‘language’ DIRECTLY conflicts with things they used to say ‘never do that’.
So what changed exactly? Change is understandable but this is a full 180. - floating anything was verboten - accessibility was paramount - clarity was prioritized

This isn’t something I have actively thought about… but now that you bring it up, I am definitely concerned. If the APIs were deprecated, CarPlay would be useless as the auto manufacturers would not update their head unit.
The thread about an F150 with a known Bluetooth issue is a great example. Number one vehicle sold in the US for a LONG time, and yet no incentive to keep it working apparently
Love reading about these types of R&D efforts, especially when they are successful. I started in robotics in 01 and was present at some of the first commercial vSLAM efforts and materially contributed to a hardware solution utilizing IR beacons on the ceiling. We also looked at RF radio mapping at the time, but the computational power wasn't there. Great to see how far it has come and LOVE that it doesn't require infrastructure!
I am curious how deeply you have had to study the impact of how busy the store is with your signal error? Considering that humans are bags of water which is quite detrimental to RF signals, my guess is that your error increases along with the density of people.

As others have said, UniFi had some tough years but that early stuff just works and my uptime is in years.
For sure… but digital distribution and deep understanding of the mental processes behind addiction make it even more accessible for new products / games today.
I remember when ‘Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products’ came out by Nir Eyal. It came out the same year as ‘Addiction by Design’ and was rapidly adopted in the SV and HN circles. I heard somewhere he felt bad about the impact of Hooked… but I don’t have a source.
Eyal wrote another book 5 years later trying to help people control their attention & not falling victim to the playbook he outlined in Hooked.
I hear you. You are 100% correct, it is NOT easy... for a LOT of reasons. I hope you didn't feel like I was making light of it or implying that it was easy. it is not. Full stop.
Congrats on making it so far against such odds. That is a massive accomplishment. Day by day... use your amazing progress to help you motivate continued growth.
Hope is critical and I am glad I was able to provide a tiny bit for you. We are all different, so what has worked for some / many may not work for you. Frankly that was the hardest part of our journey, the 'unending' iterations. Hoping each would provide relief... waiting for weeks and months, only to move on to another cocktail.
On the flip side, there are a LOT of different treatments now and some very promising 'new' ones that are helping a lot of people.
It sounds like you have come a long way without much help or relief. I am glad it was helpful to know that relief is possible and that may help carry you forward just a little further.
You'd swear the process of getting diagnosed + treated for ADHD was deliberately designed to filter out anyone who actually has it. It's maddening.
You aren't kidding... and the US's ridiculous controlled substance policies that mean people with it are forced to reach out to their doctor EACH MONTH for a new prescription. That feels like a sick joke for those who struggle to keep organized and focused... and often leads to lack of consistent treatment.
Glad I could offer some hope / peace. It is truly remarkable the difference when one moves from deep depression to the lack of it.
