Busy work for people who really shouldn't be in tech is what UI design has become.

We had great UI, then tech branched out and we need to redo every UI continuously so the marketing people (who mostly also don't belong in tech) can boast of new and improved this and that. It's all so tiresome.

I don't agree. It seems that Israeli archaeology is focused on the premise of being there first, above all else. It doesn't seem that Christians are heavily involved in Israel's archaeological program either.

Actually the way it usually works is a voting system, where if one component disagrees, and two agree, the majority vote is upheld.

This is why I like long-established technologies. You can build most anything with typical POSIX utilities and time-worn libraries. And they will be there for you in 25 years. Who knows where Rust and Go and Node will be in a quarter century?

Farming foreigners doesn't work well when global travel is shut down. And Universities get so much more money from foreign students that they've become focused on bringing in these folks over the people from the states who started them for the benefit primarily of the state's residents.

This really ramped up in the mid to late 1990s when we were told that Universities should be run more like businesses.

Nobody has any idea, actually. Apple's EULAs give them the "right" to basically do whatever they like with your data. Does Apple actually disclose what they do with your data? And how have these policies changed over time?

Nobody knows what they're doing. It's why it's smarter to just keep your data away from companies.

People don't trust companies who want an email address. You get extra spam, the company or their successors and partners sell the email address, poorly secured computers and cloud nonsense almost ensure it'll be stolen, and nowadays if you have an incorrect opinion you could easily be doxxed, even by people inside of these big tech companies and startups.

You may not care about these issues, and you might have the correct opinions for now which don't irritate the tech overlords. But lots of people have learned the hard way that providing an email address is, at the very best, going to result in spam. At the worst? You could be physically assaulted, lose your job to an outrage mob...
