OK, you are right. I was focused in on "that’s a decade of $20 keyboards lasting a year each." BUT they didn't actually do that, which is good.

They are totally worth it. The cost is almost secondary to me, it's an excellent typing experience and it reduces reparative stress injury.

I have a rosewill that is made from cherry brown switches and apparently the minimum electronics to make it work reliably unlike the low end one OP wound up with. Probably cost me $80 six years ago but it works the same as it was new, and I expect to get a decade out of it no problem.

Basically yes. Renewable is more of a supplement to current grids for most of us. There might be a couple rare few areas that currently claim 100%.

OR another (incorrect) way of thinking is that resistive heating is 100% efficient as every bit of heat generated is inside the home. VS mechanical heat has some "loss" with some of the heat being left outside the home.

But yes, mechanical might be up to 600% efficient depending on how you think about it as moving heat around based on energy usage per therm delivered inside the home is really what people are looking for.

Walk around in the American Heating and Refrigeration conference for a while to get a feel of these trends, this was specifically called out by many manufacturers as driven by the green movement.

I guess if you value your time far less than money you can save a couple bucks on cheap keyboards? I guess they now have a cherry brown based keyboard and can experience the different between that and awful membrane boards. Personally I think a little extra money is worth it for a keyboard that lasts years instead of dumping a membrane board in the landfill like OP apparently does.

It's an industry term for mechanical equipment that can heat AND cool. One piece of equipment replaces your AC AND heat source.

Heat pumps in particular are getting a push from "green" initiatives because they only use electricity for fuel which can potentially be supplied by "renewable" sources.

This is the thing I don't get, reddit is getting a heck of a free ride with all these mods. You'd think they would do everything within their power to enable them so why kick them in the nuts?

Also the "power" users would probably be happy to pay reasonable prices to interact with it via app/api, so go ahead and charge something REASONABLE.

I can't believe they would do this AND kill off third party apps. I'm with you on not rewarding reddit, they have become very user hostile all the sudden.

Excellent point. Even as a non developer we are automating things like deploying databases for a application and complete system backups. We pay for that app to be developed but it pays off 200x once it's deployed and realized across all the like systems we manage.

All the little things like this that keep getting added are why I switched back to iphone.

I had to scroll too far down for this, exactly what my first thought was. The web page and native app are just not that great once you've worked with Apollo and some of the other apps like baconreader come to mind.

I've always thought that the apple design adds a LOT of size to the watch head with the way they intrude inside the case. If they didn't do that and had the standard horns/lugs that every other watch has the watch head could be smaller. Also occurs to me that might be a desired result though so they can have a bigger display.

Not really, plenty of people have "discovered" that proper food intake and exercise actually works. Very few follow through long term and they are looking for a pharma answer, which is profitable so sure they are willing to fill that want.

The term diet I'm avoiding here itself is viewed as a temporary change these days, but it must be a permanent change to actually work.

I guess I'm a freak, I dropped 30~40 lbs and all it took was a permanent overhaul of my diet (keto/paleo) and committing to some exercise (close rings on apple watch most days). You know, discipline. About 4 years now...

People hate when I tell them the secret is proper diet and exercise, they just don't have the discipline.

I work with building automation HVAC software and it's expected to last the lifetime of buildings so it's very common in my industry. Automated Logic WebCTRL in it's present web server form has crossed the 20 year mark and the controllers it is compatible with are in the 35+ year range.

Most humans create terrible passwords (myself included) and I really benefit from simply having a random word generator. I use generators like these to create a random word cloud to pick and chose from to create my actual password. I also might have to read particular passwords over the phone to someone in a rare emergency so real words help with that a lot. This particular one doesn't throw enough random symbols in between words IMO, I also like to throw in misspellings and random caps which none of them seem to do.

The tyranny of the default is real. People on this site are perfectly aware it takes three seconds to change it but the great masses don't even think about it and they are worth the money spend to keep this default.

I can't help but think this is the excuse, anything for another foot in the door to further their adoption.

Not that one, but I found something that sort of worked but the false rejection rate was way higher than the windows driver. I just used a password and got a new machine this year.

I did and it worked out fairly well. Lenovo x1 6th gen fingerprint reader didn't work out well but everything else was easy on ubuntu and mint.
